I have nothing on my radar and it kind of bums me out

Presently not that rich hoping to win one on the Knives Emproium give away:)

You could easily afford it if you sold most of the knives you don't use. Here are 5 suggestions:
Les George VECP
Rick Hinderer XM-18
TAD Dauntless MkII
Calavera Cutlery El Patron
R. Laconico Blast Flipper

Get a Strider, Hinderer, Les George or a JG Norseman. Or sell all the knives you don't use and start new. I have 10/11 knoves, and I feel that is too much already. Guess I'm a minimalist at heart.

I'm just the opposite DRk. I look forward to the times when I'm not in overdrive searching for the next knife. I embrace my time in between knives, it allows me to wind down and focus on other endeavors. And it is a simple matter of time before I become passionately drawn to the next knife I can't get off my mind. I just let it occur organically.

You have no fixed blades!

Just this Gerber 525 from a long time ago, I really don't think I would carry one.

Sell off a few factory knives and get a custom.

The thought has occured to me.

I am sure this could be a whole thread on to itself but assuming you find a maker that you like - are there particular custom makers that you get a lot of value from for the money spent? I don't want to spend that amount of money and get a knife that is just different if you know what I am getting at.

Second this!
Made the switch from folders to fixed for EDC about a year and a half ago. Mostly knives under 8 1/2" and 4" blades carried IWB. Whole new world and you get a lot more knife for the $ in a fixed blade. Then you can fuss over custom sheaths or get into doing them yourself - adds another dimension to a functional hobby.

Perhaps you should take a look at traditionals.

+1! :thumbup::cool:

Maybe grab a Great Eastern Cutlery #15 pattern; a very clean lookin' slippie that has sort of a modern appeal...

You can't go wrong with an alox SAK either...

Good luck, OP!

Looking at your title, I wouldn't go "too big". It sounds more like you're chasing the feeling you get when a new knife is in the mail and excitement and anticipation are running high. Throw a bunch of money at a mid-tech or custom and while you'll no doubt be pleased, the rush will fade and you'll be onto the next thing.

Consider a few exciting, but inexpensive choices that might sate your hunger for newness. You can pick up several over the next few weeks or months without hitting your wallet too hard and likely keep that feeling of "Ooh, that's cool -- what next?" Further, some of the "cheapies" are really good and deserve to at least be considered. Maybe a Vic or Wenger SAK, Kershaw Leek, a CRKT Minimalist, Cold Steel something-or-other, ESEE Izula, etc...

I Don't think so much that I am just satisfying my hunger for newness, though I am sure most of us like to get new things. I am pretty methodical about the knives I purchase and I really haven't been disappointed in any I have so far.

I am really more interested in something that I think is unique, great value and I will use as an EDC (which for me could be like say a Spyderco Gayle Bradley or a vallotton as an example). I think all of the knives that I have purchased so far have fit that criteria in one way or another.

I could see maybe selling a couple to fund a custom knife but at this point I would have a hard time deciding which one to sell because I use and enjoy most of them. The many reason for the OP is that I wanted to see based on what I had some forum members might say hey if he likes a Phoenix he might like this etc.

Looks like you need a slipjoint. Doesn't have to be expensive.

I'll suggest a Case Swayback Jack with Chestnut bone, and CV blade steel, or a SAK Alox Cadet.

I had the same issue so I did some research and got on the list for a gareth bull warlock. check him out, his work is phenominal

That probably is worth its own thread... I'd bet there is one on that topic already. I can't really answer because I don't make folders and I'm pretty biased about fixed-blade makers :D
