Anyone have one of his knives or have an experience dealing with him. I was just curious as to how long he has been making knives--is he a member of the guild so on so forth.

Thanks

Kevin

I have one of Gary Hicks' fixed blade knives that I acquired at the Denver Knife Show in June. Gary had a nice-looking Mini-Bowie hunting knife on his table with Sambar Stag scales (I'm a sucker for great looking Stag, so I bought it.) Gary said that he apprenticed with Dick Patton, the man who designed and made the Mini-Bowie that Tom Beringer used in the movie, "Last of the Dogmen." I am familiar with Dick and Rob Patton's knives and so I expected his to be of like quality. The problem with the knife is that the blade apparently was not heat treated and it will not hold an edge at all. I didn't discover the problem with the knife until I tried using it on a hunting trip.

I contacted Gary immediately about the problem and he assured me that his knives carried a lifetime warranty and he would take care of it. That was months ago. Now, he refuses to answer his phone and won't return my calls. His email is no longer valid and I guess I'm just stuck with this worthless piece of crap.

If you're smart, you won't buy one of his knives. Contact Rob Patton at Patton Knives instead. You won't regret it, Rob makes a great knife.
