I have only carried three folding knives over the past almost 40 years

Case Canoe - 20yrs , Kershaw Blackout (work) - 10+years, Police SS - 8yrs, Rookie G10 - 6yrs

I could easily get by on 3 folders, probably 2. I need at least a work folder and a gentleman carry.

Now I like to make up different reasons to carry different knives.

Formal gents (small) - Chaparral
Formal gents (large) - 940-1
EDC gents (bright) - Rookie G10,
EDC gents (dark) - 707 Sequel
Barbecues, game day etc. (guys day out) - GB2
EDC (large) - 940
EDC (work) - Manix2 LW
Farm - GB1

I can make up more excuses if ya'll need any, just let me know. :)

Crazy. I have bought and sold many folders. I was looking back and realized I have only carried three "pocket knives" daily the majority the past almost 40 years. Anyone else been loyal to one knife for a long time?

Here are the three main ones.

1. Buck 110 I was given by my grandfather and I carried for 10 years in school on my belt as well.

2. Spyderco Delica 1st gen. Once I got out of advanced training I decided I wanted something lightweight and serrated to be able to cut through clothing, tie down straps, and belt systems on aircraft seeing I was part of the flight crew. It tucked rioght into the pickle suit pockets, then BDU's and flight suit. So I picked up a fully serrated gen 1 delica , lost first one in the woods while hunting so I got another one - Carried these for 14 years. The one pictured for 8.

3. Benchmade 14200SBT - You might have read the story on this one I posted it here. 11 years with a 22 month gap while it went walkabout and swimming on my property.

Fill ins:

Swiss Scout Knife: During basic of course I did not and then advanced training I didn't really carry anything but a swiss scout that was stolen from a garage toolbox about 12 years ago

Benchmade BM530 carried for 22 months until I recovered the 14200.

Now I am back to carrying the buck my mom finally got back to me when she found it upon selling the childhood house recently, 29 years after I tucked it away into my bedroom closet hiding spot and boarded a plane for San Antonio never to return.

I have had plenty of other knives I have bought, tried out, but always went back to those three. I think the only other one I like is the case jr. scout I bought to replace the swiss scout.

Just thought I would share.
What a great trio to carry.

I envy your chance to carry the Buck 110 again. My 112 Ranger was stolen back in the 1980's. I quickly replaced it but, the replacement only reminds me that some slimeball has the knife I carried on hunting trips with my father. It is one knife I truly miss.

My firs sebenza is the knife I have held onto the longest(7 years)
However here lately I rotate primarily a spyderco pm2 and a 3.5hindererxm18. I'm pretty happy with this rotation. I will post back in 40 years with an update if I stuck with these two.:D

This is post #500 for me.......what do I get? Something shiny and sharp I hope.:p

...there would be no remaining knife factories, and thousands of folks would be unemployed. But, thanx to me and many others here, the factories are happy; the folks are working.
Thanks Sonny ! That's one way of looking at it , gonna have to save this in my head for the wife. ;)

I've only carried 40 in the past 3 years haha
Lol, that's me nowadays Sosa. I still carry a Buck 110 at times on my belt and own several flavors but these new high tech pocket knives blow my mind. After getting home last week from six months in Ca. at the Palo Alto V.A. Hospital I picked up a Spyderco GB2 and wow for under $140 this knife is amazing !!! :D

I have carried a lot of different knives in the last 20 years, but usually for a relatively short duration as I keep going back to my Vic SAKs. I just find them to be so useful. My introduction to SAKs was a Tinker in the early 80's prior to a trip out of the country for work. Prior to that I thought them to be gimmicky and more of a kid's knife. I have owned and used a number of different SAK models since then, but for the last 10+ years, it has been the same model.

My first significant knife was a Case Barlow in my early teens. I carried that knife for years; hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, just regular knife carry stuff. It did everything I needed it to do. Eventually the blade got really worn down to where it was unsafe to pocket carry. It was replaced with a medium sized Case jack knife (two blade). Still have this one and it was carried through college, hunting, on airplane trips, you name it.... No complaints.

In the 70's, I regularly carried a Schrade 250T (Buck 110 type knife) and used it for outdoor stuff.... work, hunting, hiking.... It became a work only knife in the 90's. I bought another USA version a couple of years ago to replace it for the nostalgia of it. But that new knife has not been used. The day has passed where I want to carry a folder of this size and weight on my belt. No regrets.

Only since joining BF have I honestly considered carrying more than one knife or rotating knives. The rotating has gotten old, but I often still include one of various modern knives that I own with the SAK. There is no pattern to it. But the Vic SAK stays in my pocket. I honestly tried to change to other knives, but kept coming back to the SAK. It just feels comfortable and I know it will perform flawlessly.

When The El Paso V.A. gave me no help what so ever after being diagnosed with a fast moving very lethal form of cancer I threw some clothes in my back pack along with two knives my SAK Farmer & Mora Companion and got the hell out of Dodge. They served me well for what would be a 6 month stay in California.

The sharpening wear on that 110 is great. Refreshing to see a satisfied, loyal knife enthusiast. Seems most people go through knives as much as they swap out cell phones. Always chasing the latest greatest thing without actually giving their current knife any real use, or a chance to appreciate what they currently have

I salute you sir!

If I had the good sense to do what you did, I would have a lot more money in my pocket today.

Or, I would have blown my money on another sales hyped product.

I have had my Buck 110 for about 40 years. Carried it so much I wore out the sheath and had to buy another. I've had my Vic Woodsman (similar to the current Huntsman) that my wife gave me for about as long. (It's been so long that I don't recall which one I got first.) Only recently I tried switching out the Buck for a couple of modern folders, didn't like them, then got hooked on traditionals so now I mostly carry a stockman or trapper.

I've had the same knife in my pocket for almost two years now. Only time I swap it out is when we are traveling. I have boxes of folders that never get carried.

I wish I had that kind of dedication, but I'm weak. I need variety. I mean, that's like looking at the same 3 Playboy magazines for 40 years. :D

Interesting analogy.... I like variety too, but my variety comes from having the option to carry something else rather than the same old knife that has been in my pocket for the last 10 years. This is where the knife accumulation comes in.
