I hired a new ranch hand a few months ago and he did not have a knife. I gave him a Buck 307 that I have owned since the 70s that was unused, unsharpened, and not carried. When I serviced the Buck to give to him, I noticed that the knife sharpened up like a razor and it sorta made me wish that I had kept the knife. Historically I have always had Henckels, Eye Brand, and lots of Schrades.
Last week I spotted a Camillus knife for auction on Ebay. I ended up capturing the auction for the knife at $30.00 and it came in the mail today. This Camillus is absolutely exactly the same as the Buck 307 that I gave away. Unused, sharpened, or carried. Like NIB. All it says on the Tang is Camillus New York.
I know that Camillus has had a working relationship with Buck for many years. Specifically, I have read that Camillus made the blades for Buck.
Does anyone know anything about my Camillus? Approximate date of manufacture? Are the stainless blades the same as Buck? As a rancher I use knives all day long every day and will try out the Camillus for ranch work. I was amazed at how sharp the Buck sharpened up considering the stainless blades. Maybe I am just too used to Solingen blades. Thanks for your responses. And, by the way, I really like this forum.
