Hello!

I just purchased a Cold Steel Rajah III (62KGM), and I have a question related to folders in general.
Will opening/closing too much ruin the edge of my folder? Because the blade and the handle will get in contact and... it will possibly ruin the edge? :confused:

Thank you, and sorry for the newbie question, I'm getting into knives and it is a really vicious hobby. :D

Your edge shouldn't be touching anything when you close your knife. The blade could rub, but even then the edge shouldn't hit anything, so the answer is/should be no... Unless your knife is really messed up. Pictures?

welcome!

No...the blade edge, on a well made knife, does not make contact with the handle.

The only "dumb questions" are questions you don't ask. ;)

Like the above said, no, I wouldn't worry about it. Opening and closing too much, especially if you're flicking or waving it, will however put unnecessary wear on the lock and pivot of any folding knife.

WELCOME!

The ONLY dumb question is the one not asked! ;)

No, opening/closing will not harm the edge.

Cold Steel builds hard-use knives which will laugh at your attempts to flip them 'too much'. 😉

Not a dumb question at all! The Rajah 3 has a Triad lock which is, essentially, a modified backlock. On any well designed backlock there is a portion of the blade before the sharpened cutting edge called the kick (on other kinds of knives known as a ricasso). In a properly made backlock knife the kick is the only part of the blade that should make contact with the back of the knife when closed. If the sharpened portion of the blade is hitting the lockbar or backspacer you will definitely have issues with it dulling the edge, but it also means that you caught a lemon that should absolutely be replaced by the manufacturer.

Wow! That was anwsered fast! Thanks guys! :)

It is a brand new knife, here are the pictures;

To which I would ad; if the blade is rubbing anything at all it is unacceptable and a lemon, and should be returned. If it's not, then enjoy your knife, and welcome to Blade Forums. :)

As stated, the blade's edge does NOT touch the inside of the handle when closed - that would be a terrible design. Truth is, the more you open/close it, the smoother and better it will get!
