Hi all!
My Grandfather had some 5 foot long by 7 inches wide by 1.5 inch thick rough sawn birds eye maple boards in his shop he sent over for me to use on something. I also have a small board of black walnut cut from the tree that grew on the property that I grew up on that my Dad would like me to use on some handles for him.
I have a couple of questions.
-At one point I came across a good thread on how to send the wood in to be stabilized. Something like cut 50% oversized before I send them in. Can't seem to find the thread now so how does an outfit like K and G like the wood to be sent in?
-My thought was to sand down the birds eye maple boards to look for interesting parts of the birds eye maple and have them sent in. Does the birds eye maple look good dyes any particular colors in anyone's experience? I see a lot of natural scales looking online and maybe that tells me that it doesn't look good dyed.
-The walnut is not burl or anything so would it even make sense to send it in or should I just to a CA finish or coats of Tru Oil?
Thanks!
