I've been kinda looking for a piece of flint so I can play with another fire-making skill. A 45 minute drive from my house is a store that sells rustic furniture, antlers, furs, arrowheads, etc. I wonder if they sell flint, but I don't have a phone number, and I don't even remember the name of the place.

So last night I'm visiting with a friend. We're talking, and I bring up subject, and ask him if he think this particular place would sell flint. He says, "almost definitely." My friend's wife overhears this conversation and says, "You want flint? I'll be right back." She goes out to her garden, and returns with a chunk of flint almost as big as my fist. She hands it to me and says, "Here. I've got lots more. That piece is from England. I found it in the center of a crop circle."

Really. :)

It's really not worth pics. It's just a piece of rock. Kinda shaped like a pyramid.

Ooohhh wait a minute. Crop circles...pyramids. :eek::eek::eek:

Really...you have TWO of them? From England? From a crop circle? Really?

Actually, I now have two of them too! When I first tested it, I used the back of a O-1 knife blade and got pretty good sparks. Then I wacked it with the back of a mora 510. Okay sparks...and I ended up breaking off a piece the size of a molar.

So, there! Now I have two of the too! :p

Back in flintlock days, weren't the best musket and pistol flints made from English flint?

At least, it pays for Englishmen who live near rocky fields to have that accepted as true. :)

I have lots of chunks of flint in lots of different sizes, from lots of different locations. :cool:

So there! Nyah! Nyah! Nyah! :D

They all seem to spark about the same, but my skills at true flint and steel firecraft are too sucky for my subjective judgment to mean much.
