Well the problem started with me having a lapse in common sence.. Last week on friday i have agreed to take my niece on a field trip... Yes im a sucker to a big smile. So here im standing outside the school by the bus... there are about 35 kids on the bus yelling screaming the teacher asks me what kind of a favor i owe my sister that i agreed to come for the trip :grumpy: . On monday we are having a heat wave. We get on the freeway, the traffic is as it should be in LA. moving SLOW. The Bus has no A\C kids get tired and hot. They start to complain none stop as only a bus load of kids can do it.. Then i find out that im the ONLY person on the bus that has any water in the pack.... What gives are people stupid or what... None of the parents gave any water to there kids. I know i sound mean but i had enough to share with my niece and one of her friends... Then at the end of the bus ride as
we sit there i made her a sling out of a rope to carry the bottle. One for her and one for her friend.. Had to work around kids that are having bad day... Others that just plain wont listen. Then someone did bring water bottles for everyone and before i know it im hard at work cutting rope and fixing everyone water bottle just like my niece. Came out as a hero and my niece was on top of it all as the kids were talking about how her uncle made those things from rope to carry the bottles lol.. you guys that have kids are super... i got no idea how you guys do it..
dont pay attention to me im just ranting

Just be glad that the vast majority of the population doesn't know how to find water, make fire or shelter.

Well I hope you learned your lesson. At least you were the hero and made you niece the coolest kid at school, for a day anyway.

So are you going to post pictures of your water bottle holders? Or a little tutorial perhaps?

You can't brag about something and not show the goods!

i forgot the camera at my sis house... As for the water bottle i just tied a rope around the neck in a loop so she could put it over her shoulder. Its not like i had alot of rope for everyone.... I shall post the pics when i get it back...

Just be glad they didn't call the SWAT team to take out the perp with the knife on a bus full of kids. ;)

Sounds like you and the rope made the day, good job now maybe a few of those kids will take interest in expediant out doors type things. I made a hobo stove out of a soda can and a fishing spear from a piece og cane for my 10 year old son and his friend and I was the cool one for a while.

I hate to admit it, but I actually enjoy going with the kids on trips.... I dont get to do it often, but I try and do at least one field trip a year with my 11 year old. It can be a pain, but it makes my kid feel happy and special, and that is worth the rest of it.

There are certainly many forms of "survival situation." Being in a crowd of kids on a school trip definitely qualifies. lol

Right now, I'm looking forward to being able to impress my kids with simple skills. We'll see how i feel when that time actually gets here.
