I Have To Give It Up For Big Brother Dan . . . .

It's no secret Dan's been looking for the next steel to run with moving forward.

Spell Check = TYPO = Type 0 = 01 steel

I'd be in support of going this direction, plenty suitable for fine cutlery as evidenced by it's popularity over the last 100 years or so.
I feel like this wouldn't fit with the boundary pushing spirit of Busse and kin given these statements from the article :

"Despite the fine carbide structure of O1, its toughness is not particularly high when compared with other steels. For example, A2 is probably the closest counterpart to O1 in terms of use in die steels but is air hardening instead of oil hardening. However, A2 has both better toughness and wear resistance than O1, despite the fine carbide structure of O1."

" The relatively poor toughness of O1 seems to be a consistent finding whether in toughness testing of Knife Steel Nerds, Crucible, or Carpenter. It’s not that the toughness of O1 is especially bad, but that for its fine carbide structure and low level of wear resistance the toughness would be expected to be better."

And this graph shown in your linked article :

O1-vs-low-alloy-toughness-8-22.jpg

Seeing as this graph shows O1 has less toughness than 52100/outgoing SR-101 and that the article states that A2 has better edge retention and toughness than O1, both steels (A2 and 52100) previously used by Busse, it seems as if O1 could be a downgrade in performance rather than a lateral move or improvement. That makes me wonder if that's not a direction they'd go.

Also, didn't Jerry say somewhere they were looking to replace SR-101 with another air-hardening steel? O1 is stated as being oil hardened so that's another point against it in my eyes as a candidate to best fit with what they've said they're looking for.

All this is pure speculation on my part, so take it with a large load of salt.

Either way, if Busse is going to use it or something else, we can rest assured it will perform to the high expectations they're known for. Even beyond the great designs, Jerry's metallurgical and HT expertise is what keeps me coming back for more so I don't expect to be disappointed no matter the choice.

I went another way.

I tried to do voice to text doing my best Jerry impression ........baby.

saying ;

I Have To Give It Up For Big Brother Dan . . . .

. . . . if he is able to scrap it . . . . He will scrap it!!!

and boy oh boy did it come up with some weird ones LOL

"I have to get out of Big Brother now and hes able to grab a hill and grab it."

"I have a big brother dan if hes gonna grab it hes gonna grab it"

"I had a grandpa he was a man, when hes able to grab it he will grab it"

I am more confused than when I started ??? I think I may be breathing to many kydex fumes ????

Spell check does not work on misplaced words that are spelled correctly. Since "scrap" was spelled correctly, Jerry missed that it should have said "crap". So "if he is able to crap it....He will crap it".

What do people crap? Whatever they eat of course, but generally food. Who typically makes the best food? Mom, duh. Mom = Mother.

Bring on the MOAD, or Mother of all Dogs!!! The affordable version of the MOAB we have been waiting for!!! Jerry Busse Jerry Busse I am looking forward to this one!

Paul Bos once told me his personal hunting knife was made of O1 steel.

Well, Jerry gave this a like so maybe Dan has scored the Mother of All Scraps 👍🍺🍺
OK, now I just noticed he liked following post too...
We're missing the misspelling clue Jerry dropped here.

Love your ideas but it's got to fit with the misspelling clue I'm thinking. Will either of these fit with a misspelling of another model?

Been racking my brain all morning. Still holding out for the MOAR!

Maybe that's the 3v version of the Regulator 12 prototype? I'm betting the demise of SR-101 wasn't enough to end the game plan for the eventual model we saw in the prototype.
That's two possible thumbs up for the MOAR or something along those lines like the MOAD as einsteinjon einsteinjon said or MOAS like you said.

Then I also noticed he liked this in the MOAB thread :

Excellent points. Wouldn't want to dilute the rarity of it by making too many. But now that makes me wonder about this incoming SYKCO model, is it a large chopper too which will satisfy those who wanted a MOAB but missed out? Did Dan scrap it?

Either way, the amount of new models coming out so fast and furious is incredible.

I used to wonder if I had missed the "Golden Era" of Busse having only officially jumped aboard about a year ago, but it's quite obvious we're still very much in it. 🍻

There's definitely other plausible reasons he could have liked that post but maybe something along the lines of a SYKCO MOAB could also be part of the reason as well?

All I know for certain is that I'm getting very excited and a bit impatient as I wait for this announcement, like a kid on the night of Christmas eve.

Here's to hoping that Jerry or Dan will be posting yet today! 🍻
ETA : I mentioned being excited like a kid on Christmas eve and eagerly awaiting a post from Jerry or Dan and lo and behold, I see that as I was typing that, Jerry announced a SYKCO grab bag ganzaa! Christmas in May! Too funny.

hey I was kind of right :) with Grabing thing :)

Ok, so if this ganzaa was what Jerry was hinting at with this thread, what was the typo? I'm a bit lost there.

He likely made a typo in his original post, which he then corrected and laughed about. Everyone assumes that everything he says is some kind of cryptic riddle about a new knife. He generally labels the riddles as such. Sometimes, he’s just hyping us up for what’s to come.

It was not this Ganzaaa that I was hinting at my friend. o_O

The word you're looking for was auto-corrected, so it is no longer there . . . I left the corrected word alone . . . .

So, the answer lies in the word BEFORE it was auto-corrected.

A few of you have been on the right track . . . So close but no cigar.

Oooohhh . . . A cigar does sound good right now. . . I'm on it . . .

The FIRST one to solve the riddle wins a $100.00 shop credit good toward whatever it is that we are talking about here! 🤑

This has now become a "Blind Contest" . . . kind of like the "Blind Grab Bags" . . .

Unless someone opens this thread, looks inside, and finds this post of mine, nobody will ever know that there was a contest until it's too late!!!!!! 😲

Good luck gang!

Let's Drink!

Ok, so no matter what, I and the rest of us are still "winning" in that we get not one but two awesome SYCKO sales soon, very cool!

Thanks for the clarification and the bonus chance at some shop credit!

Now, how to figure out what your original post said before the auto-correction..... hmmm..... 🤔

Thanks Jerry!
