I have to wonder why.....................

things change. I believe from all the posts I have read that there might be a trend in 112 popularity.

I don't understand the choice either. However, I am not a business man and don't know their situation.

Would love to see the Vantage become a CS item! I think it could get a lot of buzz with a different group of knife people and be a good marketing item for them.

On the plus side, I think more in the CS is better and do hope that other options will come in time. I think they would sell a lot more if them did models in a annual rotation. Publish the dates and let people know that they will make model X till 1 Jan and then do another model. Not sure if it's practical though.

Thats probably a good idea, except if I wanted a particular knife I'd hate to have to wait for the rotation to come around. I'm sure that knowing a knife was about to finish production, would increase sales.

On a side note, I like the anvil stamp for the CS knives but I wish they would also put the date stamp on them to.

I like the duke. I just don't see the value in it though. Same price a custom 110 w/ premium steel can be built.

We each have our own idea of "value". I see plenty of "value" in a premium steel Duke and own a few. The same size as a 112 and a pretty well liked pattern. I suppose my having at least eight Custom Shop 110's already has something to do with it, but a new 110 from the CS no longer has any value to me. ;) I'd prefer something different and in a size that I like. The 501's and smaller aren't one's I will buy, I just don't see the value in them (;)), but everyone has their own idea.

That's my point. All the Dukes I've come across had 420hc steel. 2 had camel bone handles and 1 buffalo horn. I just couldn't give up $145 for a knife w/ a 420hc blade. When I said value I actually ment money wise over materials. Of course I could never factor in one's personal desires. I just don't see any body wanting to custom a knife w/ 420hc. I would have grapped up the Dukes ifen they had premium steels.

If it takes a premium steel to add value, thats just not a problem. There have been Dukes with S30V blades and also I believe ATS-34 (may be wrong about the last but it was something other than 420HC) as recent as last year and there would be no problem for Buck to offer that (which is the only value added steel offered for the CS 110). The 501 is offered right now with S30V and I read that they will be ready soon for the other sizes.

To add value of materials yes. I've just never ran into Dukes w/ anything other than 420. I just looked on Buck direct and their Dukes are 420.
Mind you there's nothing wrong w/ 420hc steel.

Hi EX,

As Dave said "ATS34" This Buck Duke was made for the BCCI members and has a ATS34 blade. They also have a S30V blade knife, also made for the BCCI.

EVERY CS 112 from the brief order period that was re-sold went for more than factory 'list'.....Paperwork is VIP! I'm glad to see ANY custom from Buck..

How do I get my hands on one of these you have pictured. I just searched for em. What I found was the BCCI units of 2010 w/ the the green mircarta scales. I would like one with the bone scales.

The BCCI (Buck collectors club) issues these as fund raiser knives in limited quantities. This fantastic looking knife sold out very fast. They do show up for resale on the auction site from time to time. You have to hunt for them know, I sold one to one of my forum pal's last year;). The S30V green canvas micarta 500's are still for sale for club members at a lower price than you are finding on the auction sites. It's a great reason to join the club.

Hi Dave -

I would be all over a couple of custom 112's if they made them available.

I will likely do up a custom 110 since that is what is available.

I love them not only for the usefulness and quality, but also the nostalgia - this is what I carried as a young man.

best regards-

Although I'm happy to see new CS offerings, I don't really understand the pricing. The smooth buffalo scales (my favorite) on the 110 are $37 and on the 500 series its $90... well over double the price. Not impressed.

I'd also like to see the 112 in the CS, I'd order at least 3, to start with.

Nobody has mentioned the biggest problem that plagues the Custom Shoppe.

They don't offer any real premium steels.

Buck just can't compete with other manufacturers who offer steels like D2, A2, BG-42, ATS-34, 1095, INFI, ETC.

Now what's the use of having a Custom Shoppe if the best steel you can offer is a powder steel like S30V?

Get some real premium steels and work them into your offerings, Buck. Yes, you can sell them at premium prices.

You'll sell a lot more knives.

That's a beauty John, but it isn't the one I was thinking of. Then I remembered that the 500 was offered with an ATS 34 blade on the web specials page awhile back. I borrowed this photo, as I missed out on them because they were way oversold and not everyone who ordered got one.
