• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

A buddy of mine called me the other night to report that he had been in a local salvage store and they had a bin of Silva compasses for $.39 each. I went there the next day and walked out of the store with 52 Silva "Starter" compasses (appears to be identical the the Polaris) for $21.30, sales tax included. They were unpackaged and some of them had a light dusty film, almost as if they had been in dirty water. Perhaps they were salvaged from the mid-west flooding. They function perfectly. Okay, so what am I going to do with 52 compasses? Two for me, the rest will be used by students in my shooting club's hunter safety courses. There were still a bunch of them left. so I called some instructors from other clubs so they could share in the bonanza.

You did well my friend! Check each of the compasses to see which ones read most true. Silva and Suunto have excellent warranties and I'm sure the ones that aren't reliable would be covered as long as you explain they are new in the package. You're a good man for passing on the savings to the hunter safety courses. Land navigation is taught early in the WLC courses as learning to avoid getting lost is great accident/emergency prevention.

wow nice score and even nicer pass along!
take some pictures for us! I've never seen a gaggle of compasses! :D
