I've got an extra BK&T BK1, I understand they're made from 017C, or something to that effect, would it be possible to reheat and temper it, is it air, or oil hardening?, then do a cryo treatment? or just leave it alone.
Not sure why you'd want to redo the heat treat on the blade. I guess that is what everyone is wondering.
If there is nothing wrong with it, just leave it alone and use it. If there is something wrong let us know what it is and I'm sure someone here can answer your questions or offer some options.
Just to see if it can be done, goofy projects, like differentially heat treating old carbon steel kitchen knives, just having fun...G, oh and also I wanted to change the edge geometry.
I suppose you could redo everything but you would have to remove the handle and any finish on the blade before starting over, then anneal it, rework it, then heat treat and temper it again. Or you could just slowly regrind the edge and not let it get hot. Seems that would be the easiest, most practical way. Although if your just looking for something to do, have at it.
If you get a chance post up some pics when your done.
The more I look into this, more and more headaches arise, I might just stick to putting hamon lines on quarter knive's from goodwill, I am going to re handle the BKT. Thanks..G
