I hope this isn't what I think it is

I was vacuuming up chips after doing the drilling and tapping to mount my disc attachment on my KMG and I sucked up a washer that I had just ground down to use as a shim in the project, so I opened the vac to retrieve it. There's a hole burned in the bottom of the shop vac. Looks like I almost had myself a nice fire.

Yup you sucked up a hot chip or 2. With the blast of the vac you could have been in trouble.. Steel dust burns hot and fast. If you vacuum up real soon after a grinding session empty your vac. I usually suck up a little water just in case and then empty it.

You can set up a secondary recovery through a metal can with metal fittings.
