First, I was prying open a log. So there can only be me to blame. I wasn't battoning, or throwing. I had the blade in about 1/2" to 3/4" and was attempting to pry off a section, which I had done before with no problem. I started to pry and SNAP! Off came about 1/4" of the tip. :'(

Here is the damage.

I'm still in shock. Not sure of anything right now. After my cousin lost my beloved 1245, and now this, I have no companion belt knife.

That knife is still perfectly serviceable! Just drop the point! You havent lost her yet!

I have not lost faith in Ka-Bar or Becker, I just think I over did it. Guess I should have got the Campanion... Still can't believe it.

He's not dead yet! Plus, there's still 99% of the edge left. ...you could still baton and make feather sticks and do a LOT of tasks that knife was designed for. Granted, it might be hard to stab a bear with it, and it is a little sad looking, but I say use it, re-grind it, then use it some more. It'll make it even more skunky....

I've seen my fair share of dead skunks, and that isn't one. That looks more like a hockey player missing a tooth......still plenty of fight in that dog!

Ok. So "dead" isn't the right word. I posted this right after it happened, so my emotions got the better of me. I'm already ccontemplating how to fix it. Some great ideas, thank you all!

There, there. Your knife will have more character now. :)
I think a drop point would be cool!

Take the swedge off and follow that line. It seems like there is already a line from the patina there, She knew what She wanted to become and She is giving you the "go ahead".
Good luck and keep us posted.

EXACTLY. Even badder!
or just grind off the the spine starting at the back of the swedge and moving to the new 'tip' - that should do it too, less extreme.
