I would love to hear from anyone that may know anything about these knives. The display box makes me think they are original bone from the factory.
Thanks for your help guys.
In 1979 the 506 Lady Buck was offered and for men to buy it the name was changed to White Knight. This model was offered with white micarta handles which was well recieved. So, the Custom Shop could have made up a set using this handle material in the 80's.? DM
I know that Leroy had stored the white micarta and
rehandled a lot of knives with this material.
May be that he fullifilled an order and made a set
for a customer.
Leroy also has a good supply of antique ivory Micarta.
I spoke with him at length, during OKCA last Sunday, and this material came up as a candidate for the new Heritage 124 Frontiersman handle customization.
I got the knives yesterday. I bought these from a fellow in Texas selling for the widow of a collector. I asked if he had any info on the knives history but he didn't. He listed the knives as bone. I think they are ivory...what say you guys? Sorry for the poor pictures. I'll retry outside with some better light. Box is aftermarket cherry.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful set. Beautiful. You know how to go big. Four at a whack!
Looks like ivory. The feel is telling. Get a grip on some known ivory then you'll have a standard for comparison to your scale material.
Here are a few pics of a vintage ivory-handled folder, ivory verified by Leroy, who works with ivory (I showed it to him and he immediately cleaned, preserved and explained the defects in the knife makers product while talking about ivory), for comparison with your scales (note that the pics appear more white while the ivory in person appears slightly more yellow):
Thanks for the comments guys. Oregon, esp. appreciate those pictures. I'm confident its ivory on these four 500's.
So, here is my English Script collection. Note the picked brown bones are circa 1990 however. Note I'm still short a stag 501 and 505.
I had wondered if the Ivory set was late 70's like the Burgandy Micarta or early 80's like the Birchwood.
So I made an observation looking at them all at the same time. The top of the bolster on the 505 is flater in the Ivory and Micarta while the Birchwood and Bone have a more rounded top to the bolster. I'll guess the Ivory is a 70's set in 440c....I'm getting happier about these by the moment.
