I just don't understand

I think that the average man is not drawn to knives like some of us even if we are not collectors. But I agree that someone who needs to use tape, plastic or rubber tubing and such would seem to find a knife a necessary tool.
My son-in-law works on the RR in the maintenance shop and he is never without a knife at work I don't think. On the other hand some of his co-workers are always asking to borrow his knife.

I was a dedicated hunter and fisherman, and a knife was always a necessity. I had them in my truck, rucksack, pockets, and a fixed blade on my belt most of the time.

However, I am not really into knives to the degree many here are. My knives were Case, Camillus, and Bucks. I have a Morseth from the 60s and a Randall plus a Lile, and Ruana. However, to be honest I did not find them overall superior to my two blade Camillus hunter when edge holding and sharpening were considered.

im also an auto tech and i carry at work and have a squad of blades in my box. i baton hoses, cut old belts off and serrations are great for stripping wire. im alot like you i cant understand either but oh well. its extra nice when under the dashboard i can whip out my Ontario xm2 to pry a fuse or relay out without having to extricate myself and walk over to the box for a screwdriver. i think just 1 other guy i ever worked with carried and i had a boss who was so aknifical he refused to have a knife on his BOAT.

I shake my head in dismay every time I see this. I recently spent the day working at a job site and the cash register install tech had a pile of cartons to open. There he is slashing at the taped cartons with his car keys and punching the box tops to break the taped seam. One has to assume that he has to face cartons most every day he works, yet no knife. I just don't get it.

I'm very lucky, though I currently work for a university, the weapons rule only applies to knives with blades over 5". Our site is remote, so the sheeple are at a minimum out here. Couple years ago one of the grad students brought me all her kitchen knives to sharpen :D

Just does not make any sense. I say work smarter, not harder! The knife in my pocket is used everyday; from cutting hoses, wire ties, boxes open, plastic wrap, prying out fuses, sometimes stripping wires, and yet my friends still make fun of me for having and buying them. Oh well, when I need to cut something I just reach in my pocket, they either run to their toolbox.....or of course ask to use mine.....does not make any sense!
