Bruce -

I really hate seeing your photos. You make it look so easy!

Nice pin work on the handle. I'm not sure if it's the scan or not, but the blade looks like a mild kopis. The guard looks like one of your classic half penny's.

Great Stuff!

BTW - I used your half penny tutorial to make a brass half penny - S guard for a cable damascus bowie. I'll try to get a photo on the web soon.

Keep up the GREAT work, and let's see some more tutorial on your web page!

Bruce-

Man you are good!!!

That is one beautiful knife! What a blade! The whole thing!!! WOW :eek

Your name is going to be huge Bruce.

Speaking of Bowies, I started my first one tonight. I somehow lost track of where my finger was, but a 50 grit belt was really helpful in showing me exactly where it was!

Thanks for sharing Bruce!!!

Nice one Bruce! (as usual!) Out of curiousity what was the size of the 5160 round rod you forged it from. I have some 3/4" 52100 that I want to play around with and would like an idea of what size blade it might work out to be (i.e. 1 1/4" wide x 3/16" thick) after forging it down.

Too many pins, blade is bent, gaurd is too symetrical, handle is too rounded ricasso is too square. tip isnt pointed enough.

Dont mind me. I must still be recoiling after showing my knife to Wayne Goddard and J D Smith at the show. Bruce B.

Nope...that won't do. Bruce, please forward the embarrassing knife to me so I can properly dispose of it. Who has ever heard of a coffin handle with beautiful, subtle...I mean horrific, of course...curves making it more (I mean less) ergonomic? and what kind of nutcase would bastardize such a thing by recurving the blade? It's a bowir, not a khukuri dammit! It'll never do. In order to reclaim your previously high standing here, just tell people you made it custom for me. I'll take the rap, you can send it here for a proper destruction, and that way you'll save face. Even though i don't know you, I'm willing to make these sacrifices to help you out.

Before you throw that in the garbage, make sure to tell me when your trash man comes!

See Bruce B. I knew if you had just poked them with that knife, all the aggressiveness would just dissipate away....

It's too late now though

I sure am glad I didn't have to be looked over by JD.

Bruce B. don't feel to bad,When I was at the Batson symposium a couple of weeks ago I had B.R.Hughs-Jerry Fisk-Kieth Kilby all critic my knives to see what I needed to work on before my Journeyman judging.Geesh those guys can be picky
eek.gif

Then throw in Don Fogg-Jim Batson-Larry Harley-and a host of others looking at them and giving you there opinions,You end up a nervous wreck....But it was fun and I WILL do it again and again and again until I can get them done correctly(Maybe when I die I will be close)
Oh Yea,The ladies at the post office weighed this knife for me and it weighed in at 17.1 ounces.....
Sorry guys I can't take credit for the design of this knife as Sing designed it and got the first one this one belongs to Mario.

Bruce, I looked at this first about 3:30 this morning and it's haunted me all day. I made coworkers come look at it -- so they could see how a real knifemaker compares to the hack they all know and love.

This is a beautiful and innovative bowie. Every time I think you're settling in to become another legend like Lloyd Hale you take off on some fantastic tangent. There's no doubt you're one of the greats and I'm honored to watch your work.

Whew. Thanks for sharing this and for all you do.

Yep...this stunning example of bowiehood is all mine
biggrin.gif
.

I'd been craving a classic dueling bowie for some time, and had been keeping a close eye on Bruce's rapid evolution in this area. His work has truly become world class in the past year or so.

The moment that I saw the first Dragon Slayer Bowie that Bruce made from Sing's design, I was smitten. The blade profile with its slight recurve should give increased slashing and clipping ability, giving this bowie the added cutting abilities of a bolo. At the same time, the shape and positioning of the tip right along the long axis of the bowie should maintain excellent thrusting. The profile of the swedge should facilitate powerful backcutting. Finally, the slight downward cant and palm swells of Bruce's signature 'coke bottle' handle should provide excellent ergonomics and grip security. Bottom line, I had to have one

.

I asked Bruce to make my bowie elegant, a Classic Beauty as it were. And he did so in spades. The lovely filework, with its theme picked up again in the seppa located in front of the guard; the guard itself with its half-penny ends; the gorgeous buffalo horn scales with contrasting silver pins and beautiful central mosaic pin- all work together to produce an absolutely stunning package. This bowie's so gorgeous that I think even my wife will be able to see beyond its deadliness and appreciate it as a work of art. This piece really belongs in a museum, but I think that I'll keep it on the nightstand next to me instead
smile.gif
.

And, best of all, Bruce did all this and still managed to bring the bowie in at only 17oz, with the point of balance just at the Spanish Notches. This bad boy will be lightning quick in the hand.

To tell you that I am pleased with Bruce's creation is sheer understatement. I am going to be on pins and needles until I have it in my hands tomorrow. I can't wait to swing this bad boy for the first time
biggrin.gif
.

I will post an indepth review once I've made friends with my new Dragon Slayer.

Bravo, Bruce. Bravo.

Thank you again,

Mario

Bruce Its hard to take the critisym but I needed it. JD Smith has written articles about form fit and finish. He never said anything good about it. I have 5 knives to make that are worthy of that kind of judging before the Blade Show in June or its a wasted trip. I am starting to worry. Wayne said to make them of a simple design because there is less to nick-pik about. I think I will take his advise.

By the way, That is a great looking Bowie. Bruce B
