I just looked up the tang stamp on my EDC box cutter and found out it's 100 years old, do I keep usin' it?

My personal feelin' is why not I paid a couple of bucks for it at a yard sale a while back.

It's a Union Knife Works Equal End Bull Pattern(?) it had a broken blade which I believe was a Spear Blade, I ground it down (very slowly) into a short Sheepsfoot for use as a box cutter.

I loved the warm Brown Jigged Bone scales with the Bowtie/Propeller Shield, I picked up this up with the intention of just usin' it as a workin' knife but the more I look at it and the more I use it, I realized that this was a quality knife that begs to be carried.

I'm not a knife abuser so this knife would probably outlast me, so what say folks, use it or put it away?

It doesn't know how old it is and it doesn't seem to have hurt it any.

I can't think of a good reason why you shouldn't use it given the pedigree you've provided.

I think it is cool to carry one that old. (and I do it. :))

If the knife could talk the stories wouldn't be from sitting on the dresser, I'm with Ellliott, and Gus
use it.
Ken.

Knowing it's that old would make me want to use it even more. Keep on using it like you have been.

If I had a knife born the same year as I was, I'd keep using it :p.

Don't put it away.

The master cutlers who made that knife made it to be used -- it would be a shame not to carry and use it.

If you aren't using it then it will be a shame. Use it. Go for it. Do it. Be a man. Carry it. Get the idea?

Couldnt agree more with everyone, Glad it found someone like you to carry it. You deserve each other!! Cool story.

Oil the joints, and keep on cuttin'!!
What a pleasure to use something so nicely made.

That's funny, when I looked it up in an old edition I BRL book and saw that they were only made from 1911-1913, I immediately oiled the joints, this knife takes and holds a razor edge, has no blade wobble and walks and talks like Sinatra wearin' a pair of hand made Testoni Norvegese shoes.

I will definitely continue to EDC this knife and care for it till I'm ready to pass it on, (not for a long time).

Carry it and use it, and enjoy it! That's what I do with my 70+ year old Remington with the worn-down blades! Yours is like mine: still has a lot of life and cutting left!
