I just got scolded at the Post Office...

Ok.

Seems like some people think you can carry any knife in the Post Office and others think you have to be under 2.5 inches to carry one in there.

Another big thing is The Federal Courthouse. I know its there, but there is nothing notifying anyone that it actually is a Federal Courthouse. I know ignorance to a law doesn't make you exempt from prosecution, but it would be very nice of them to post something.

I wouldn't let it get to me. IMO the guy did you a favor by (A) not taking your knife and (B) giving you a head's up that may negate future problems with other LEO's on site. Just drop it into your pocket when you go in there and then reclip it when you get out. Not a big deal to me.

anyone ever shipped knives longer than 2.5" through the USPS?

All the time! That's why this thread threw me for a loop, half the time I just walk in with what I'm shipping and buy a box there.

I've never heard of this being a problem. I suppose I could just be lucky, but I suspect it's one of those bizarre rarely enforced rules that's just sort of there, waiting for some postal employee who wants to throw their authoritarian weight around.

You know, if they can enforce rules like that, why can't they process a request to deliver to the apartment complex office instead of dumping packages on your doorstep.

About a year ago, our local post office had their no guns sticker on the front door. Last I was there, the sticker is gone, do not know where it went, but no longer on the front door.

Anyways, as my wife says, no one will ever know. So I usually go in there with my CCW on me, concealed. Imagine that. Never had a problem, even with the huge clip of a Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical hanging off of my right pocket.
