I Just Got The FFBM In For The Destruction Test

Over a glass of Kool-aid with a scotch chaser....

I was thinking about these videos and how everyone has speculated that the FBMs will be hard to come by because of the test. Well it is worse than that –or it should be- all Busse INFI knives are going to be that tough!

Luckily only the FBM's are made of INFI and all the other Busse knifes are made of AUS8 ;)

I think that needs to become a salad fork. definitely.
 
I'm know 100 percent it would not have broke if I would have missed the welded cross section. at this point I was throwing everything I had at it. No one should be upset it broke. The FFBM went through some insane hard use before the end. It survived at tasks that have done in other blades. The edge was still together this was the most impressive part for me. The knife suffered very little damage in the end.

For me shearing steel tubing is just normal use for the FFBM I would not hesitate to do it again if I had my own. The edge can take it. In fact I'm sure you could mount the FFBM on a hydraulic press and use it as a steel tubing shearing blade. The edge is this hard and tough. :thumbup:

had you been using a rubber or wooden mallet, it may have been able to have lasted longer on the welded cross section. I think that what cobalt said is accurate, without using a fresh portion of the edge (my opinion), there was just no way that the the steel and weld was going to give, so the ffbm would have had to have given eventually. but with a softer hammer surface, it may have kept the fracture at bay a bit longer.

woulda destroyed the hammer though.

I could not have used a wooden or a rubber mallet to shear through the tubing. I would never been able to generate enough impact and force to accomplish this with the FFBM. There was still plenty of edge left. It was undamaged. it was only rolled a little. And I got completely though the first section and 99 percent through the second cut using the same portion of the edge.

It has a few problems, theres a repeating pixel pattern left in the blanket, and the sides of the prongs are to dark and consistent, and change in sharpness due to the fading edges of the rubber stamp tool. I should have grabbed the tubeing holes to paste onto the inside round edges of the prongs... I like it for the 15 minutes I spent on it :D

I decided to leave the choil side prong off because of the difference in thickness it would have, and the smaller amount of metal backing it compared to the other prongs.

If you can't till your back yard with your salad fork - It simply is not strong enough.

Sorry I can't see the problem here !! :D INFI forks. What's next maybe a spoon ?
 
Well... Finally had the time to watch the vids... Still mourning the loss of the Mistress, but happy to see that I'm getting the right knives built for beating the $#!% out of! Great testing, noss4... That FFBM sure put up a helluva fight. How are YOU feeling??? LOL :D:D ...Sore? Have you recovered yet?? Great vids, thanxx for showing everyone what a Busse can really do, and what effort it really takes to actually make one break. :thumbup::thumbup: Too bad you intentionally tested it to destruction, or you'd be enjoying the fantastic Busse warranty right about now! :D:thumbup:

I think it would have been under warranty, since it failed without direct modification by the user. while one could say that the destruction was intentional, I've always read the warranty as "if you take a torch, grinder, hacksaw or file to your knife and it breaks because of what you've done to it, we cannot warranty your work, wich caused it to break". the reason it wouldn't be under warranty here is because jerry sent it to noss4 specifically for testing purposes, which would indicate that it was a one shot deal.
 
Videos were incredible..incredible enough for me to go and get another FFBM off the second hand market. These knives will be very much sort over as the years pass on.

I really enjoyed the vids. What was funny was your body language and expression from about midway through the handle smacking on.

You had said something earlier that this test was to go till the FFFBM broke and after the full swings at the grips didn't even crack the micarta (G10?), your expression to whoever was off camera was priceless.

Like, "WTF do we do now? I have to break it and it won't break!".

Before that weld did the trick, I'll bet you were considering something like an 8# sledge and a anvil. LOL

I was amazed also. I figured for sure the grip shots would break it with that kind of lateral stress.
