I just ordered a Bill Yao custom Seiko

This one really caught my eye.

Funny you should ask. First thing I did was check out each option on his pages, then I realized that what I ended up assembling was the same watch on the homepage!! I emailed him and got a quote. Unfortunately I cannot make the May 30th deadline so I will wait til after he moves to NY. I just bought three more watches so they'll have to hold me off til then....

When the repairman opened the case, the battery has already leaked and thus the movement and face had to be replaced. It cost around 70% of the watch's original value.

I thought that was just an urban legend. It would be interesting to know more details about this unusual occurance, such as the age of the watch, etc. I'd like to hear what the Tag people have to say about that anomaly.
Nevertheless, don't let your fear of battery leakage discourage you from the wonderfully precise and virtually service free new solar and kinetic movements like Citizen's Eco-Drive and Seiko's Kinetic watches. The lithium battery in these watches will not leak, unless of course you know someone who might have had one that leaked.

Great minds think alike. That is the same watch I am getting. Have I told you guys that the wait is killing me? ;) Bill said it should be shipping next week. :D

I'll post some pics when I get her.

I wonder what kind of band I should go for? Nato? US issue? Stainless bracelet? Decisions, decisions.

The watch is around 10 years old of the 2000 series. Normal battery change is 2-3 years. In this instance, the watch stopped, second hand was just fluctuating but not advancing, but opened after a week at the authorized service center.

Not really discouraged but dissappointed. Yes, the kinetics are virtually service free but they do have to be serviced albeit after 10 years according to the manual (which I do not have anymore). I read in another post, I can't remember where, maybe at Timezone, that there is a certain anomaly to the kinetic. Maybe it was just fluke but it dispells the normal notion that the kinetic is very reliable. My apologies but I am too lazy to find that thread.

This is very encouraging.

No, I have not given up on quartz technologies but I believe that they are still in the infant stage. I may have to wait for it to mature. Automatic movements have been around for quite sometime already and certain manufacturers like Omega has been improving still on their co-axial movement.

The highly accurate Citizen Eco-drive watches are built for a lifetime with no servicing required. I'm not sure about the Seiko kinetics but I'm headed for their website now.

The mailman just dropped her off. All I can say is that I am impressed! It is better than expected. Bill's work looks like it was made this way from the factory.

I will order a different configuration once Bill gets settled in from his move.

Here is a quick pic. I'll get some better ones tomorrow.

Congratulations Dennis, it is a nice watch. I also like the concept of the off-centered crown. It doesn't bind the wrist and protects the crown too. Overall, a very good concept, movement and value.
