I just received this email from Garth.

Fatter brother? You have a fatty SFNO?:eek: What's that come in at, .27 or .3?

Of the two, which do you favor more?

.27, I think.

My preference went to the thinner one, but not by a wide margin. I tormented over which I would keep and in the end I let the fatty move on. It was no easy decision; the fatty is an brilliant knife that feels perfect in the hand.

They are both amazing, but I give the edge to the thin one for chopping. The more thickness you add to a knife, the more handle heavy it becomes since that's where the extra steel is going. Also, since I have the Heavy Heart, the niche I needed the SFNO to fill was the lighter camping knife. The thinner knife is perfectly capable and if I want to carry a heavy knife, I'll carry the Heavy. :D

Thanks for your opinion. I'm still trying to decide if .20 is satisfactory for an all-arounder. For some reason, the BATACLE just feels so much more solid than a cg SFNO. You're opinion gives me some food for thought, however...

To expand a bit on my decision to sell the fatty (yes, I'm still rationalizing it to myself :D). If the choice I was making was "which 1 I would choose to keep?", it probably would have been the fatty SFNO - the rock solid prying beast that is comfortable to carry but can do anything. Instead, the question I asked myself was "which knife/knives should I keep to fill the tasks best?". I went with the smaller easy carry do-all blade and the heavy hitter.

Anyhow, I'm rambling. Good luck with your decision. You have a tough choice to make -- they are both sweet knives. :D

My questions are really many. I just got an FBMLE, but the mags don't seem to fit my hand very well, so the question is: do I keep it and sand the grips to fit me the way I'd like, or do I sell/trade it for an HH? (Problem is that I have a small collection of satin/tiger blades and the FBMLE fits in there perfectly) :(

The other thing is this: I have a BATACLE, which seems to me to be a great all-around blade. However, the SFNO has better ergos but is quantifiably thinner. I could see the SFNO being a better all-around user, but at only 3" shorter than the FBMLE, anything the SFNO can do BESIDES chopping, can probably be done very well by the BATACLE.

The real truth is that none of these knives is REALLY an option for the "one-knife" philosophy. I could probably get by with an SFNO if it was thicker, but really, the best option is an HH or HOGFSH(LE).

As it stands now:

Satin/tiger warden
Satin/tiger cultie
BATACLE (satin/tiger)
FBMLE (satin/tiger)
Nuke Badger (queen)
Clip SFNOv (queen)

Truth is that I have plenty of knives to accomplish pretty much anything I'd need to...but now I'm feeling a mite hoggish, so I'm trying to decide what should be next, or if I should do some "trading".

My max is around 8 blades. Once I have that many, I'm always compelled to trim the fat. I could have kept the fatty SFNO, but the redundency would've killed me. Sick, I tell ya, sick. :o

Sweet list of blades -- I love that satin and tiger. Good luck in your choices. :D

Joules...

I'm still very sullen that OP got that black/blue custom SFNO before I could, but since Jamie's such a nice guy, I'm trying to get over it. :D

And wait..if 8 is your max, what's with all the Rats in your sig pic? And are folders considered part of the 8?

He tried to back out of it, but nossiree. I says to him, I says "you gotta doit, you da sucka". An he says "I'll give you a thousin'" an I says, "no ways, you says six fitty, you pays six fitty!"

Don't haggle with the master.

:D :D

Nice Troy!! I do like the double cut look! She's PURDY!! Now go beat her!
Did Garth do the micarta handle re-profile as well? Or did you drill them out and grind on 'em?

River 8... I am guessing you got yours back with the handles firmly re-attached?
