I have one of those...it's BG-42 and you got a great deal! :thumbup:
I have my original receipt, if you are curious I can dig it out...

There were several made as photo samples that have 420hc steel instead of bg-42 but most of them that I've seen were not in the MS box. That price seems pretty good regardless of which one it turns out to be!
 
That's a pretty cool tidbit Joe! So, if it's 420hc, that would make it an even rarer bird! Cool find and congrats Plumberdv...

Thanks guys. Yeah, I think it was a win win situation for me at that price. I'm thinking it should be here by the weekend, so that gives me time to locate the 110, 532 and the 501 for a group photo session.
 
Sweet,I remember vividly when these were introduced,they had some very nice checkered scales,bg-42 blades,and a nice emblem in the scale.I bought one from S.I.R mailorder when they first came out,it was razor sharp,had kind of a greenish color to the wood,it was a beauty ,had mine stolen from my house,it was new and unused condition.Beautifull knives ..
 
Well, my eagerly awaited package arrived a little while ago and I knew even before opening it that something was wrong. The box was too small for the Vanguard and sure enough, here's what I was sent by the rookie seller. I'm not overjoyed but I'll bet the guy that bought this one for twice what I paid for the Vanguard is really steamed!

Looks like we have to wait until this is straightened out to see if the Vanguard is really BG-42 or not.
 
Yea I hope you get this fixed and all ends well, I know it is a let down for something like this to happen but I hope it all works outs for you.
 
For $60 that's one heck of a deal....LOL. That seller sure has a boat load of Bucks for sale and 0 feedback?

Yep. The seller better be prepared to pay for postage to ship it back to him or I'll just keep it. It's worth way more than the $60. Problem is, I don't really want it. I already have two of the CF versions.
 
The seller just got back to me and is going to have FedEx pick it up here so I don't have to mail it back. Now the waiting begins all over again. I was really hoping to add it to this group shot today. :(
