The last time I was at ZERO knives was the 2nd weekend of September, 1961. That was when my grandfather gifted me with my first knife, a small single blade peanut along with the admonition - "Now that you've started school, you need your own knife. We can't have you borrowing one all the time."
The next time I'll be a ZERO knives will be - NEVER. I will be buried with a knife or three. In fact, they are already picked out, labeled and sitting in a drawer. My nephew knows where they are. They are duplicates of special knives I have. The actual special knives will be going to my nephew.
I am slowing down in the accumulation of KNIVES - I only bought 43 knives in 2018, including a set of 6 1950s Kabar steak knives. I also bought only 27 swords, sabers and bayonets that filled gaps in my collection of that series of blades. That's the least number of sharp/pointy objects purchased in a calendar year since 1992, the year after I completed my second stint as a "4 part-time jobs" college student.
I gave away 23 knives and sold 64 old folders, so in the end, I did manage a minor horde reduction of 17 knives, or about 0.47% of the current total.
