I just spent $200

So I just spent the most amount of money I've ever spent at one time on knives. I bought a mini grip, spyderco diamond rods and some tuf cloths. Ease my mind about my purchase. Will I regret buying the mini grip? Are the diamond rods as good as everyone says?

Everything will be just fine. Take deep breaths. I'm not personally a fan of the axis-lock, but everyone and their mother loves the mini-grip. The diamond rods are pretty great for aggressive material removal, well worth it for knives that come with imperfect edge bevels that need reprofiling.

Ya dun good! The $200 you just spent was a good investment that will reap benefits for years to come. I doubt you could do much better... Relax and enjoy your new toys ;)

Haha thanks guys. As soon as I hit checkout I started to second guess the purchase. Does anyone else do that after a big purchase?

Man, you are in for a big surprise. Before you know it, you'll be plunking down $250 for a knife, then $350 and on it goes brother!

$200 for a Mini Grip, Diamond rods, and a cloth? Where, if I may ask, did you buy these items. Seems kinda steep to me.

The mini grip is an excellent little blade. Which one did you get?

$200? What is $200? Never seen such a little amount of money ever since I got into knives
:( expensive

I do remember when I thought $80 was a lot for a knife, fun times.... The last knife I bought was $300 and I bought a pair of them, lol. Most expensive was $1000 for a Sandshark, it's worth double that now :D I'm pretty sure all of us get that "what did I just do" feeling when we buy expensive knives/accessories, it's just natural.

Spyderco diamond rods are great - just remember to use them lightly - little pressure - or they will wear down quickly.

No and yes.

So realistically, you only spent about $100 on a knife...

That's not much really, there's people that spend that at the bar on a Saturday night!
At least you have a cool knife to show for!

Your $200 purchase will give you a working tool and a way to maintain it for years and years and years.

Compare that to a smartphone, which probably costs about that much and doesn't last anywhere near that long.

That's what I thought, too. But there's something to be said for convenience and getting them all in one package.

OP, diamond rods are long lasting and can cut through any steel. They'll actually save you money in the long run. Don't worry.

Congrats..You will love the Griptilian. I've had my 551 for 10 years now and I have never had an issue with the axis lock. It's the best out there IMHO.

I've dropped 200 on a CPM Cruwear military a year ago, only to eventually discover there is no significant difference between it and S30V, which I already own. So I now hate myself. I plan on upselling it on ebay to some unwitting fool.

The best thing you can do is research as much as possible with Cliff Stamp's various forum threads before buying anything and don't buy into the bullshit on bladeforums. Don't waste money on m390, elmax or s90v. The knife industry is chock full of bullshit.

For what its worth, 154cm Benchmade is a good, relatively inexpensive high wear steel, like VG-10. Definitely better value for your money than the overhyped, ultra high carbide PM steels. I find its less chip prone than S30V, which is itself very brittle, though both induce heavy micro-chipping.

That's a great buy man! Look up the price of some knives and you'll be happy you only spent that much plus you got something to clean it and sharpen it with. ;)

Buyers remorse man. I get it after everything I buy, just spent 450 on a ps4 although I Dont regret it I wonder what else I could have used the money on. The feeling goes away after your next pay check when you realize you will just get more money and it comes and goes. But your things you invested it on you have forever and will get a lot more pleasure out of. I'm saving for my next knife not sure what it will be yet though. It'll feel worth it once you have it for a little while.

Up in the Great White North everything costs more. The mini-grip was $100, the sharp maker rods $55 and the tuf cloths like $12. Plus shipping and taxes. I'm always jealous when I hear how much cheaper knives are for you guys.
