I decided I need a lot more practice to make a decent spoon, and I'm sick of letter openers...

So I've taken up carving. This is my very first carving. I did it on Saturday. It's a little wizard head. I painted this one (which is why it looks wierd) just to make sure the face parts lined up right.

This is my second one. I did this one Sunday. My wife painted this one. She obviously has a lot more talent than I do. We've decided we quite like this, so we have a new partnership. I carve 'em, she paints 'em.

I've gotten some good critiques from the wood carving forums about not having so many perfectly square edges, and making deeper cuts. My next ones should be better I hope :)

Anyone else do wood carving?

sometimes i do a little chain or just whittle little shapes and things into wood, but i don't really do it as a real hobby...

i did start a ball in cage once. never finished it, its awefully difficult to carve being maple...alot harder than maple. nice that it doesn't split as much though. i would like to get some more pine to try again.

those are good!

I always wanted to start carving, but I hardly have the time, or the patience.
