I keep screwing up.

Ryan, I took your advise and used the CA last night. It looks great and I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. That goes for everyone on here who responded. I'm onto another one this morning. Back to the G10 liners, and antiqued micarta under Koa. I liked that look.
 
Glad you got it figured out. Some materials don't get along very well with files, horn tends to do the same thing filing the wrong way on corners or hole edges, and very fibrous or brittle woods can do this too. The blowout or tear-out looks different on different materials so we may have been guessing for a while on this one.
 
Plain CA will probably work.Build it up in layers.
A slow cure epoxy can be tinted with a tiny drop of black model enamel. Use the tip of a toothpick. A little does a lot.
