I know I want a fiddleback....

The Bushfinger is a do-it-all profile if you ask me! I love your thread title! I want a Fiddleback too!!!

Hell Krav why settle for one get a Recluse, Kephart, Bushfinger and might I add a Hunter to the mix, with a 4.75" handle and a 4.5" blade, nice and pointy and very comfortable in the hand.My favorite atm.

More pointy.

Then I'd get a Kephart, Ladyfinger or Recluse in 1/8". If it is ground high 5/32" is great as well. All of Andy's handles have worked great for me so that shouldn't be a worry.

If you find something you like handle wise I'd jump on either a Kephart, Recluse, Bushfinger or Ladyfinger. They are all great and will serve you well.

Bushfinger (5/32" full height), Ladyfinger (guardless 1/8") and Recluse (5/32")together:

I can't add much to this thread without clouding up the water with more opinions. There is a lot of great information and recommendations here that mimic my thinking. I will say that I have been buying, collecting but more importantly using Andy's knives since he started making knives. To this day I don't think I can honestly say that I have a favorite. I have favorites (plural) but I can't choose one. That is part of the joy of being a Fiddleback fanatic. Aside from some of the very specific models, all of Andy's knives will do exactly what you are looking for. Handle shape, blade length, blade thickness, steel type, etc... will be determined by YOU over time. That is why you see such a feeding frenzy around here on Friday's and you don't dare stick your toe in water over in the flea market. You will lose it!! :D Kidding of course but if you want a great deal on a knife the flea market has some great buys.

Go ahead and evaluate the opinions you have received. Choose a model from those most recommended and start there. Then take it out and use it. You will start to find your likes and dislikes. Once you do you can either sell the one you have to buy something different or keep it. Then start your Fiddleback collection by buying another if the budget allows. The choices are endless. You can't determine what works best for YOU without taking a few models out for a spin. If that isn't your style then, like I said, pick a model from the advice you are getting, buy it and use the hell out of it because whatever model you pick will do exactly what you are looking for.

Welcome to the family and have a blast!!!

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I have nothing against scandi. Own couple mora's, LT wright genesis in scandi grind.

Have sharp maker, wicked edge, shapton pro stones, balsa wood 1 micron paste and some leather for fine tuning. No problems in the sharpening area.

Just wanted to try different grind

Gotcha. Like I said, I was just curious about your motivations so thanks for explaining.

I actually went with a non-scandi for my first FF (Bushboot) myself as well btw. I already had a few decent scandi knives from other companies but wanted to fill a different gap, mostly for food-prep/diner-knife, hence the BB.

& thanks to McVeyMac & Thurin for weighing in as well.

I carried my Bush Spydie and my Laplander as my main wood cutting tools for most of June and a little of July on a month long outing in the Swedish woods btw & did a lot of batoning with the Spydie without a problem. It's mostly about knowing the limitations of your knife, when I first got the Spydie I spend hours on the stones doing edge repair on numerous occasions just to to figure out how far I could take it before I took off with only my tiny Spyderco Double stuff to fix any wrongdoings.

Sorry for the off-topic btw, I tried to keep it as short as possible, but that's not one of my strong suits..

Good luck and enjoy the search for your first FF
