I know most frown on Smith & Wesson but..

Mono I have the exact same one!,,, had it since at least mid 90s,,, was very good at the time but could really bite you if not carful using the pliers !! Still use it from time to time !

I think the only thing that bugs me about my S&W knives is the marketing they seem to want to scream on the side of the blade in huge letters. SPECIAL OPS, EXTREME DUTY, etc. Just a a nit pick that I'd rather them leave that printing off. A good knife though I've never had problems with the few I have owned.

I like the current lineup of ≤3" S&W and Schrade knives, a lot more so than the Enlans and Sanrenmus that make up more than 90% of my collection.

The only reason i have so few of them is cost; they sell for almost 2x or 3x more where i live compared to the US prices (paying 30usd for a knife that retails at 14usd is definitely not my idea of an affordable, value-for-money knife).

And shipping them directly from the US is very expensive, to the point where they are only slightly cheaper than the local prices.

Whilst I LOVE their handguns, I'm not a fan of their knives...

...but I quite like their 'tactical' pens ;)

I've only ever owned one Smith and Wesson knife: Smith & Wesson SWMP1BS Assisted Opening. It was a total POS and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough!

That doesn't mean there aren't other S&W knives that might be great - or not. Just my limited personal experience.

I worked at S&W in the late 70's. At that time Blackie Collins designed most of their knives...mostly sheath knives plus the 1 folder. IMO they are/were some of the finest knives ever made. A+ quality..they even made their own sheaths in Springfield,MA. Still made a few nice folders after that..but before SAK. I have a S&W switchblade from the 80's Army Issue (but not likely). A definitely nice knife that almost jumps out of your hand. I feel their quality has slid over the past 20 yrs..although I've handle a few M&P's that have nice "snap" for a SAK less than $60. One of my EDC I really enjoy is my SAK "Ken Onion" Kershaw in the rainbow finish. Have had it since 02' and never fails me. Holds a great edge. And for some reason...when I use it ...people always seem intimidated by the looks and the snap. I DO like to change my EDC's. So many knives and not enough days !! (been collecting high end knives 40+ yrs). A REEEALY cool S&W to own is one of their "swing blades". They pop up on ebay occasionally and if lucky it will come with the leather sheath. Check em out !! Custom knives are BIG bucks to acquire !! In general I feel fewer companies are putting the effort in there knives because of overseas manufacturing making "pretty" knives w/"pretty" blades at low prices. Give me a vintage Gerber or Buck any day...

I've been using my S&W Extreme Ops auto around the house like crazy! No blade jiggle, hard hard open, great feel in hand. I'm sort of giving it a test of sorts to see exactly how it holds up. Loving it so far.

Back in the '70s I had an S&W fixed blade. It was real cheap, and it wasn't much of a knife. I couldn't get it real sharp, and within a couple of years of non-abuse, it broke. I didn't know too much about guns then, either, but it caused me to wonder about a maker that would let its name appear on such shoddy goods.

My opinion of S&W revolvers has improved since then, but I am afraid my view of the knives has been permanently jaundiced.

S&W makes some great firearms however, I don't own any, I'm a Colt guy :)
Our department used the S&W 4506 auto as our duty weapon. I didn't really care for the plastic grips but, that's what we were issued.
