Sorry but I have never had nor seen a Busse but see the name spoken on all knife forums. I have never taken an interest until recently.
So what can y'all tell me that may pull me off of the fence?
I am looking for a general purpose EDC bag knife that will see some hip time. 3-4" range.
BTW, most of my experience with fixed blades are with Bark River.

Very Very tough steel. Great edge retention, and super corrosion resistance.

Perfect combo of all those areas. Super strong lateral strength and edge durability as well. Tends to roll or deform a bit instead of chip out, which really makes bringing the edge back into shape much much easier. I accidentially chopped a pebble in half (splitting some dirty muddy wood). It was about black bean sized before I chopped it in half.

Instead of a big chip, I had a small roll in the edge. With a few minutes steeling, the edge came right back into shape, and was shaving sharp again. Nice.

The best part is the warranty. Forever. As long as you don't intentionally destroy it, they will fix or replace it.

Bigfattyt said it all, I believe. INFI is an incredible steel that is heat treated to perfection. Easily sharpened to scary-sharp by even an amateur like myself. I don't own any other fixed blade knife any more.

Good luck and welcome. :D

Mike Stewart makes nice knives, very nice, but BigFatty did say it all.

Plus the BEST customer service of any company I have ever dealt with....in any business.
All stemming from the BEST boss I know of....in any business.
And I'm not blowing sunshine up anybody's backside. Just the truth.

How about a Boss Street their still up on the Busse Combat website at a great price. Also the Sar-3's are on the Ex for sale from time to time too.
And welcome to the madness of Infi. ;)

Another vote for the Boss St. right from wauseon:thumbup:
Love those barkies too:D

Welcome!

One difference between the typical/average Busse and the Barkie is that the Busse will be beefier, with a thicker edge. If you are a fan of the Barkie convex zero edge, then you will have to reprofile your Busse somewhat.

The distribution model is very different, and is confusing for newbies. Busse will have one or two knives listed on their website, as they do now. They take orders and then schedule a production run. The wait can be many weeks, especially right after a new knife goes up. Then there are occasionally knives offered for immediate sale by the only retail outlet, the Busse Company Store. Those are in limited number and can sell out in a few hours. There is likely to be another SAR3 release at the Company Store, so keep an eye out for that. You should consider going to Blade next weekend, experience the Busse craziness is person.

I ordered a SAR 3 at the exact moment they were in limited stock at the Busse Company Store. After completing my order, which didn't take more than 4 minutes, they were sold out. I would email them so they can notify you when a knife will be in order. You have to order it at the moment its listed on the order page or they will be sold out.

For sure the best customer support. When you have gals like Amy taking care- you have the best. The knives speak for themselves- the folks on this board ( also SY and Swamp) can tell you all about how great the support is.

I have an uncle that loves Barkies, but one of his complaints about Busses are the coatings, so, you can always strip your Busses too.

Find a Game Warden to start off with. I dont think a cooler little knife exists.

I do. The AD. I carry my GW a lot. But is still hanker for an AD (I traded a BAD because I did not love the color of the handle, and I want another one. Maybe a Muddy AD).

The GW's are great for carry however.

I was in the same boat, looking for a 3" pocket/bag knife, and, never having seen (in real life) or handled a Busse, I picked up a SAR-3 (because I had always liked the look of the SAR-4, especially the handle). I got it today and absolutely love it. Fit and finish is top notch, with all the exposed metal smoothed and coming super sharp (and convex--the edge, not the whole blade, which is full flat). The handle is super comfy and grippy (I got black canvas). In terms of its size, it's smaller than I expected from pictures, but that made me like it more. I don't have any Bark Rivers to compare it to for you, but it's very close in length to my Swamp Warden and 1-1/8" longer than my Izula if you have either of those.

Here's a bunch for sale but don't know what to get. I know I like the satin finish. I also know that I like the Sars3 and 4 and Game Warden.
Some are labeled .22 or .270 or lean. I have no idea what in the hell any of that means. Thanks for the help in advance.

Link removed.

The .220 and .270 is how thick in inches it is at the spine. Some are called 'lean' when the same knife has come in different thicknesses.

I believe that you should remove the link. IIRC, cross-forum posting isn't allowed here. If you have specific questions about one or more knives, just post the pic or describe them and we'll try to help ya. :)

.22" and .27" is how thick the knives in question are across the spine at the thickest point on the spine (usually right around where the handle slabs meet the blade, i.e. "ricasso"). These are chunky at just under & just over a quarter inch thick. :D

Also... Be sure to ise the Search This Forum feature located near the top and on the right side of any forum/sub-forum page to search any forum's For Sale exchange for the knife you want. You might find 3 of the same knife, but as all are sold by different folks, all might have different prices. It pays to shop around.
