I know Tyrkon will identify!

New,

I'm very happy with the G35. 306 hp, the full technology package, moonroof, etc... And I can drive it like a stick (tip-tronic, paddleshifters, etc...). I always loved the 14 (all Audis after watching Ronin), but after driving an '04 Jetta GLS 1.8t, I probably won't own another VW/Audi for a VERY long time. My experience with the Jetta and with VW service was not a good one. Multiple suspension and AC issues, and bad service (including two dents which had to be repaired while I drove around in a rental). After awhile, my wife was like, "dood...please get rid of your car and buy something else." I was all too happy to comply.

Hope your experience is the EXACT opposite of mine. Enjoy driving your car around. Oh, and especially that little turbo whistle.

J

thanks for the info gatman!!!!

and by the way.....teaching is the most underrated/underappreciated profession in the world.....if i were a bit smarter, i would've loved to have been a teacher.....

just saw the pic....nice!!!!!

Hehe,

Fellas, Bubba has very little sense of time. I'll be done teaching this time next week. I do have to teach summer school a week after that though. A big +1 on good kids making the job all worthwhile. I'm currently teaching some of the best in my career and I will miss them sorely when they graduate.

Tyrkon, we're having issues with kids setting fires in trash cans too. They've gone so far as to remove all trashcans from the main building; it's annoying.

GatMan, you are one tough dude. Are you sure you're not MADE of INFI instead of being a simple collector therof? Does Jerry have a secret part in a six million dollar man program of some sort? :D What's your writing conference about?

Man, where are you people teaching? (well, I know Ham is in Cal) My school district is 4th largest in the nation and we haven't had anything like that. Maybe a foodfight or something like that. My wife teaches at the largest school in the nation and they haven't had anything crazy either. I hope you guys/gals are able to stay safe.

Thanks for the compliment. Come to think of it, maybe that rod in my leg IS INFI. :D Funny aside...After I got out of the hospital, my brother GentleBen saw the scar below my knee and thought it looked like a gallows. He suggested I get a tattoo of a rooster hanging from the gallows. I said, "why?" He said, "So you can tell people you've got a cock that hangs below your knee!" What a dirtbag! :D:D:D

As for the writing conference, it's a program that University of Miami runs for teachers each year called the Zelda Glazer Writing Institute. The program runs two weeks from 8am til 3pm and focuses on helping teachers write, and use creative writing in their classrooms. For me, it will be an opportunity to get back into my own writing.

It's weird...so many people say that when they go through something like cancer they find themselves writing/creating all the time. For me it was the opposite. I found that every time I sat down to write something, the cancer wanted to spill out onto the page. I didn't want to be dealing with the cancer and thinking about it incessantly as well, so I stopped writing. I haven't really written anything of substance in over a year, and I'm hoping that the next two weeks will be a bit of a watershed. I'm actually very excited, though I wish it started a week after vacation begins, instead of the Monday after school ends. Oh well...

In case ya'll don't know, aside from being a damn near indestructible SOB, the cat is a fairly decent poet, musician, philosopher, gunslinger, and connoisseur of urban fashion.

I'm glad you're going to be able to get back into your writing groove, brother.

Brother J: take a deep breath. let it out. get in your car. drive over to the East Siiiiiide. turn your bass down so you don't piss off my neighbors. partake of the sacred scotch. help me roast some helpless woodland creature on the grill. partake of more scotch. partake of some more scotch. eat grilled woodland creature.

ETA: more INFI content...

Hey Ben, when are you gonna give the SHe a rest and let the NOe come out and play? And btw...what did Bull have to say about HIS NOe? I'm anxious to hear what he had to say about the first time he grasped that thing.

And I'm waiting ANXIOUSLY for Ban to get my little baby in hand and get it back to me. When he does, we'll take pics of my girl and yours sittin' out on the dock next to two glasses of single malt and a couple of good gars. Maybe we'll throw your carry 1911 and my 19 in for good measure.

My NO-E is sitting pretty in the safe for now. I re-shaped the grip a bit, and now I need to polish the spine to get the scratches and swirls out.

BULL is VERY happy with his NO-E. I'm going to experiment with making a sheath for my NO-E, and if it turns out decent, I'll make one for his as well.

btw, when you have a chance, take a look at my site. I made a few changes, and added some training pics in the gallery.

You flatter me. ; )

So wait...what's the NOe doing in the safe? You should be beating that thing like one of your demon-children. I know...you don't have a NEED for two crazy users in your Miami backyard (nor do I), but brother, soon enough, you hafta go and destroy something with it. It's almost sacrilege to have such a business-like knife sitting in the safe. ; )

Just checked the site, brother. Looks fantastic. Really has come a long way since you started it up. Wish I coulda had more impact. Wonder if you could get permission to post the essay, "On Sheep, Sheepdogs and Wolves" on there. I have some other ideas as well, but we'd better discuss those in person. We'll hang soon.

Oh man, I would love to go to a creative writing conference! That sounds pretty awesome. I'm in SoCal too :) Bubba explains the whole teacher safety thing as saying that normally the students are so busy with each other that they don't really have time to attack teachers directly. So most of the danger is not directed at us. I worry more about the students, but they generally know who wants to start something where and when. Honestly, I work with super awesome kids, there's just some less than stellar students that get some undue attention.:D

A musician eh? What do you play?

It's sitting in the safe because I haven't had time to do anything else with it. Been pretty busy lately...got some good business from the gun show (and more inbound), so every spare minute is spent on that. But just so you don't think I'm completely neglecting my steel, periodically I use the SH-E to hack things up around the yard, e.g. prune trees, split kindling for the firepit, etc.

Anyway, I've hijacked your thread enough. If you're free Sat afternoon, lemme know.

First off... NO-Es rule. I love that blade. Take it out of the safe. :D

Secondly- We have a fair amount of teachers here. Pretty cool. Some in SoCal too. I teach in East Los Angeles. Anyone near me?

I teach and where I work we usually have school twelve months a year. No rest for the wicked, I guess. Oh. This is my post # 1000. Took a while but I finally made it.

Well ... I taught physics at an American University for four years in the vanished 80s. Does that count?

Hehe...I didn't teach there...but I went to a moderately rough High School. It was getting cleaned up as I attended though. My senior year we didn't have any riots at all, and only 2 shooting and a couple stabbings. LadyThud has me tell her about my high school whenever she's feeling insecure about how "bad" the students at her school are, and if my stories don't cheer her up, PapaThud's are sure to....

PapaThud: ......and then there was the time during choir practice. A couple of young men opened the doors and started shooting......4 members of the choir and the teacher proceeded to draw their weapons and return fire.........

Pasadena High, SoCal.

Fall of 1972, the 2nd year I think of Forced Bussing from SoCentral LA.

Two ambulances and twelve armed School Police on campus at all times during the school day.

4,300 students, 3,000 Forced Bussed and not happy about it.

Good Times, Good Times.

My Kids tended often when young to hear stories that started with "When I Was a Boy"

And When I went to High School, School Shootings in SoCal Did not make the News.

Edited to add

In the particular case mentioned by Bubba, as I remember, Two young men opened the Door to the class, had handguns in their hand, at which time the Teacher and several to many students drew their own handguns, seeing all the opposing firearms the young men quietly closed the door and quickly exited the area.

No shooting needed at that particular time.
