I like Izula naked.

I tried carrying it wrapped but it was too thick for my comfort. She rides in my front right pocket. The slimmer the better, for me at least.

I carry it in my front pocket just underneath my wallet and wrapped. I find the izula slippery when naked because I have sweaty hands. I like to try different ways to wrap it plus wrapping it protects the coating from chipping. I used it naked on the first day and got some coating chipped off from the handle.

I like mine wraped as I use mine in my survival kit. Great if I need some extra paracord:)

Hi,

if used for cutting bloody, humid things or even kitchen duty around meat and fruits... it is much more easy to clean a naked skeletton knife under the tap, and then dry it.
Naked would mean then that it would be much more hygienic.
I've been looking at a lot of pattern of wrapped handles and they are all very beautiful and fancy but soon they will be turned into a humid germ nest. (Unless there is product to keep the moisture out of the paracord, and a a wrapped pattern easy to clean without a brush...)
Also the short blade of the Izula makes the handle in contact with the cut material more easily. I mean the longer the blade the safer the handle from getting dirty.
Really, a naked Izula would not only be sexy, but also for food prep it would be much safer in regard of simple hygien.
What do you think ? (It was one of the main concern in the design of Fallkniven WM1. and knife with kraton handle less confortable and less ergonomic than the Izula.)
It depends of the use of the knife. A chopper would be used for wood and "dry works" but a small workhorse like the Izula will be used for a lot of different chores, dry and wet...
Should paracord handles be kept for "dry chores"?

Cheers

cut a 2x4 in half as I and bluntruth have, you will quickly see then value of the 550!

Mine has remained unwrapped as well. I do not think the para cord will be of any benefit when it is all covered in deer guts this fall (I hope)!

I'm thinking I may just order a 2nd Izula, in a different color, and have it both ways - one wrapped and one plain.

I like the looks better naked but the feel isn't as good. I prefer to wrap it in gutted paracord but just the top and bottom separate, not the typical weave. Still has the skeletonized look and a slightly better grip.

I won't. Hopefully. And you surely know their are much much better tools to cut a 2x4 of tender pine wood...:D

(Unless you want to film it on youtube to prove the quality of the heatreating and the overall design of the Izula?
I used to do that kind of tough demo/review with Fred Perrin 10 years ago... cutting much harder things with small FB...:D)

Also the use of glove is mandatory.;)

Good idea, it would the best of both world ! The Izulas need to go by pair: one for the dry and one of the wet... Why being limited to only one ?

so far i have had my izula with paracord and just bare bones from the factory and i like it with and alittle junk in the trunk for the handle. makes the grip seem to be more stable when working. i am going to use a molle clip to the belt setup for a carry system. but just the bare handle seems to be a touch to small for people with bigger hands, so in my opinion modifing with paracord, wood, or some other medium would be nice.

Its nice to not be alone. I know a great many wraps are beautiful, I like them too. But i had to voice the unpopular "Go-Naked" stance. It has proven to be very comfortable, and reliable over time, and i never once got upset about my beautiful wrap getting fudged up.

I have two Izulas. One naked and the other wrapped. I like them both. Wrap it especially if you carry it around the neck. Unless you like the cold handle touching the belly.

Wrapped for clean jobs, unwrapped for dirty.
I use a simple braid wrap, and a section can be unwrapped quickly from the ring to form a double-overhand knot wrist lanyard (the lanyard gets wrapped around the ring by threading the knot through the end hole until the slack is gone, then the knot is fit snuggly into the hole.)
I didn't want to have a lanyard all the time, but wanted to have one quickly if I needed one.
In a similar respect, I wonder if there's a way to devise a wrap that can be quickly unwrapped for the dirtier jobs?

Eventually it's much more difficult to design a skeleton knife than a "normal" knife with handle. Skeleton means a very flat knife easy to clean. They are not the queen of ergonomy compare to a simple Mora Knife for example and there is NOT a lot of flat knife well engineered to be used "skeletonized". The Izula is one of those rare pearls.
Knowing that it's also a knife which invite us to be creative. So its grip can be improved and that's great !

I will try to wrap some leather if I fine some I like and long enough lace. Anyway the steel is acid proof thanks to its coating. Yep leather could give it some tribal feel.
(I got a self made leather handle on one of my 1075 carbon steel naked Lagriffe for 10 years now without any pit or rust...)

Cheers

I could bring myself to keep the knife bare, but I found it much more comfortable wrapped - gave me a much better grip on the lil sucker. Without the wrap, I was even having a little bit of a problem pulling the knife from the sheath.

And with regards to having a bare handle if you plan on doing some messy work... You know that paracord stuff is pretty cheap right? :) If it gets messy and hard to clean, cut it off and give your knife a new suit.

I like my Izulas wrapped. I have pretty good size hands and I like having that little extra handle to hang onto, but I also always wear them as a neck knife. I don't think it would be very comfortable in the pocket. Plus, I always EDC at least two knives, one of which is the folder I keep in my front pocket. If I was going to carry the Izula in a pocket, it would have to be in that spot and I don't want to stop carrying my folder.

Mine is still naked, I havn't even concidered going back to the wrap once.

Also i noticed that the little oval curve at the blade end of the skeletonized handle fits my fire steel nicely, scrape off the coating and you can strike your steel from behind the blade while sheathed. Can't do that with your typical wrap.
