I like "nice" knives.

Wow - truly beautiful pieces, y'all! I picked up another one of these today (Mini Copperlock - hard for me to pass up for sub-$50):

I like nice knives too...and "nice" can mean many different things to different people. It just depends what you like and how you want to spend your money. I'm not an one to amass a huge collection of knives, having 10+ knives holds no appeal to me at this time. I like having one, or maybe a few at the most, nice knives that I like to use...but actually I tend to pick just one knife and carry it every day, I like the consistency and bond that forms with it over time. I'm the same way with my watch and my fountain pen, have been using both every single day for many years now. As such, I enjoy investing in a few nice knives but I know there are people who love having a collection and variety. I don't see the appeal of having 20 different $100 knives when you could have one custom dream knife instead (or maybe two or three depending upon your tastes). But hey, that's me and I understand there are many who would much prefer the variety than putting all that money into just one or two pieces instead.

I can appreciate a huge range of knives. I'm considering picking up a black handled alox SAK because they are just such solid little knives for the money with great utility (bottle opener in my pocket all the time...that sounds very useful to me!).

That being said, I currently have had a GEC 15 single spear blade riding in my pocket every day for the last couple months. What a great little knife that is definitely a step up the ladder from the SAK. Been a great companion for me. It's a nice knife.

Now, THAT being said....I have a Bret Dowel swayback jack and a Reese Bose stag backpocket sitting at home which are both just in a completely different league. Those are really really really nice knives!!! I haven't actually been able to bring myself to carrying them as the GEC has just been working for me. I'm considering trying to find a custom in a similar configuration to the GEC but haven't done so yet. I love the quality on these two knives, they really are amazing pieces. Unfortunately since I don't seem to be carrying them I may end up passing them on eventually, but it certainly isn't because I don't love them both.

So yeah, I like nice knives....nice knives of all types and levels hold appeal to me. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it can't be nice....but there are certainly levels of "nice" and having experienced them all I can say that you can find a whole lot of happiness anywhere along the spectrum.

There ya go. That sums it all up for me.
