...but I opened the latest catalog to find this:

Now let's be clear on a few things before I ignite the flamers... :)

Ron Lake makes great knives. I can't currently afford a handmade Lake folder. A.G. Russell offers some really cool products. I buy items I get in my A.G. catalogs, and I really do appreciate their customer service.

However, I about dropped my jaw when I saw the price. $275 for a small-ish folder, made in China knife, out of 12C27? Jigged stag means it needed jigged usually...I really wanted one, but I'm scratching my head on this one. How in the heck does a Chinese knife cost $275 without any truly premium materials?

You missed the key words: Very Limited Production

This is a semi-custom knife. It's out of my price range, but I am certain that the few that AG has will sell.

I do miss a few things, but that wasn't one of em :)

That could be the case or a creative choice of words for a poor QC ratio couldn't it?

Is a semi-custom like a mid-tech? Is Mr. Lake personally overseeing the final fit and finish on these knives? Otherwise, they seem to be pretty expensive production knives. CRKT's Lake collaborations aren't nearly this expensive.

You're right. I assumed. The only thing I should actually say is that AG says they are "limited production".

I would limit them too. I think it would be hard to sell 500 pieces of a $300 Chinese knife made of non-premium materials.

That is one nice looking knive, but $275 is to much. I don't care if it's "limited production". Limited production may indicate there's not a lot of people out there willing to spend $275 for it.

I've been looking at that one too. I've wanted one since Cas Iberia had one out some years ago. I found out about it too late and they were sold out, so I'm really on the fence with this one. I hate to lose the chance again. I have the jigged stag on another AG knife and I really wasn't impressed with it, so I'm leaning towards the MOP.
