I like the OCC Blur

I just received an 1670OCC Blur. It looked good on the internet. I have many Blur's and love the knife and styles. Here's the problem with this one.

The handle is all alunimun. No textured grippy rubber like stuff on all other Blur's. Still no biggy so far. The aluminum has a spider web design. It acts like agressive sandpaper. Ripping pockets and rubbing skin off your hand. But wait there's more.... For some reason the thumb studs are like daggers. Sharp enough to rip the skin off your thumb. But only after it it snags on your pocket and rips it to shreads. Not fancy lad pants mind you. Levis denum. I filed them down. It's a little better. However, the sandpaper scales on this sucker is too agressive. It's a beautiful knife just the same and works like all other Blurs (Great).

Collect it if you like with its 10 cent OCC tin it comes in. But you wont carry it. I have the red Blur 1670RD too. Thats a looker & user. I love the Blur. I hate the OCC.

Are you seriously telling me the raised web pattern on the OCC Blure is more aggressive than the trac-tec inserts on a standard framed Blur??? I thought at first that I misread your post, but I realized you really did say that. To say that the scales on the OCC Blur are rough on pockets is, in my opinion, a gross exaggeration. I have actually complained a little bit myself in the past that the Trac tec was tough on my jeans, but I have to disagree with you about the scales on the OCC model. No where near as rough as Trac-Tec.

To the OP, maybe some others will chime in here. I would not let the handles on the OCC Blur dissaude you from purchasing one. It's an excellent knife, and an interesting one to have in the collection. I say pick one up.

Here are a few pics from a thread I did when it first came out.

Wow, my first post ever and minutes later a seasoned poster slaps me down.

Well, I stand by my statement, I have 4 Blurs. The trec-tec inserts only give that rubber effect on fabric. The alunimum web design is feirce on pockets. Not to mention the thumb studs are for some reason more agressive than other Blurs. Like all Blurs however, great knife and yes this one is a looker.

I have about 30 blurs and six OCC models.....I have none of the issues you noted with the OCC Blurs.....perhaps you got a bad one?

Desert, Welcome to the forums!

I really don't see you being "slapped down" by anyone. A lot of times it is hard to read the emotion behind the typed words. Each one of us reading a post can interpret the message differently. The same can be said about the response you mentioned. I'm sure you weren't bashing the knife, just stating your opinions. All opinions are welcome here! Please understand some of us can get protective of Kershaw when we think they are being attacked unjustly.

I'm glad you like the other Blurs you have. They are a perennial favorite for me.

Stick around...there's a lot of very knowledgeable people here. :)

Hey Desert Heat,
First off, I didn't realize that was your first post, so welcome to the forums:thumbup: Secondly, I didn't mean it as a slap down in any way, I simply had a much different opinion than you did, and having spent a lot of time using and carrying the knife in question, I felt the need to share it. Please don't let me keep you from chiming in whenever you feel like sharing. I'm not that nasty;)

What's up riff? Soooo, where can I get me some of that???:D Looks tasty!

You can make your own, jm. It's easy...just takes some time...

Start with one of these:

Then just keep adding salt...eventually it will reduce down.

Or...you could go here:

They have "Baconnaise," too. :D

Because "everything should taste like bacon."

A friend of ours loves bacon, but can't eat it. We picked up a sampler pack from J&D for her, and she loves it. We got a small container of original flavor bacon salt for ourselves on the same order, and I have to say, it's not bad at all. Have yet to try the baconnaise. I guess our friend has already gone through half of her jar since the holidays, though.

I must have some of that! Thanks for the link.

Cute story behind the founding of the company, too. (On their website, under "About.")

Hey guys,

I did not take it personally. I thought it was funny that an opposite view was posted so quick. I was just having fun when I said “Slapped Down”. I don’t take myself that seriously. When I looked at the number of posts from jonnymac44 I said DAIMMMMM. It did cause me to reevaluate my opinion. I spent the day (ok not all day) drawing the OCC from my pocket. Just to see if I was wrong. Guess what? I still stand by my original post. I spent part of the day sewing up the jagged shards of pocket left behind in the OCC's wake. (Ok, a little bit of exaggeration). I wonder if jonnymac is now or has ever worked for or profited from the pants pocket industry. I hear there is a fortune in the pocket replacement business. Just a thought.

Ya might've gotten a rough one. The one's I've held were smooth, but it's possible you got an extra grippy one.

It's a knife and a sander. The OCC Multutool.

It's a Blur, it looks cool, it works well. I still like it. But am I the only one with this issue?

Sure sounds like you got a unique one. I would actually prefer the rougher grip, but that's just me. I like my knives grippy.

I cannot confirm, or deny my involvement in the pants pocket industry at this time.

That is all:cool:

Yeah, but I haven't had a vacation in quite some time, and I gave up coffee for my new year's resolution, so no need to worry about that anymore:p Besides, I've decided that whiskey, particularly Bourbon is much better for me than caffeine. My doctor agrees, but of course, he's a goat vet:o
