On Sat. 12/10 I had to have one of my dogs put to sleep. She was a 12 year old, 18 lb. Boston Terrier and was fiercely loyal to me. Her mind was still sharp and she was pain-free, but she could no longer walk unassisted and was quickly getting worse. I miss her terribly, and life will never be quite the same without her. Fortunately I still have her sister (her littermate), so that helps ease the pain somewhat.

It was just 5 months ago that I lost my only child to a drug overdose, my 25 year old son. 2016 will go down as my worst year ever. Losing my dog is as hard as losing my son – if you have ever been really close to a dog, you will understand this. Prayers are much appreciated.

Prayers are going your way. So sorry to hear about your son and your dog :( you got good things coming your way!!

I lost my mom and my dog in 2013. I know exactly what you mean. Prayer lifted up.

Rough year. Very sorry to hear of your loses. Stay strong mate. Surround yourself with loved ones and keep your chin up. Hope things turn back around in your favor soon.

All the best,
~Luke

No parent should have to outlive their children...I can't imagine the sadness and pray I'll never have to experience it myself.

Drugs are going to be <have become?> the downfall of USA. I hate them.

That's the good thing about dogs: love for their master, belonging to the pack, and unadulterated love of food and play is their universe...beautifully simple, nothing else gets in the way.

It's good you feel like you can share it here...nice to have a little corner of sanity like Busse BF where folks have a listening ear and good hearts.

Sorry to hear of your losses. Prayers for you and your loved ones. Best wishes for 2017.

Prayers and thoughts will be sent your way. You have our deepest condolences.

I lost my best friend and my dog (one human, one canine) in 2001, so while not a child, still devastating.
Please know that you are not alone in your pain and there are plenty in this world that you can count on.

Awww man, I'm so deeply sorry for your loss and all the pain 2016 has brought. Sending support and prayers your way...you are never alone - if nothing else you have all of us here in the Trough rootin' for you.

The memories of your son and your dog ensure that they both will continue to live on with you... and whatever the after life has in store for us all, I'd like to believe that in the same way your dog is there waiting by the door for you to come home every time you stepped out he is already there waiting for you on the other side - keeping your son company while he waits to see you again as well

Stay strong, and let the emotions flow - it will get easier with every passing day... 🙏

I'm so sorry. I should pay attention to how lucky I am to have my dog, she's getting older too now.

Drugs are a real killer these days man. Honestly I never understood why the USA doesn't go to war with Mexico instead of Iraq. They are the modern greatest threat to you guys. They should go after these cartels. The problem is that there is so much appetite in the US that even if America wiped them out other countries would just fill the need.

Anyway not trying to hijack the thread.

My condolences on your son, he was too young.

Extremely sorry for your losses
Dogs IMO are the best companions in the world and as my own dog ages I get little sad.

And then I think how much my life is better for sharing my time with my dog, that the time we have had together is the best of times.

If you remember the good times then you will get through this sad time in your life.

Prayers from Australia and hope that you remember the good times.

So sorry for your loss. I can’t even comprehend the pain over losing a child. I know how painful it is to lose a dog. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers my friend.

Prayers and thoughts are heading your way. A lifetime with dogs, and I understand. None can be replaced. Sorry about your son. I can't imagine the pain. May you find some peace and healing this Holiday season.

Sorry for your loss, I to have felt the great sorrow. I had a yellow Lab that was my working partner, we did drug interdiction and explosive detection. We worked as a team and she also was our family dog. When I had to put her down it broke my heart.
