I love my GB1, so......

Thanks, Rebel Nimrod! I feel that the 940 platform and the GB2 share a lot of the same lines (especially their silhouettes) but they're quite different nonetheless.

I've thought about and wanted a 3" version for a while. 3" is my ideal EDC size, and I love the GB platform. I haven't pulled the trigger on one despite everyone raving about it, but if it was 3" I'd definitely own one.

3" GB3 would be pretty ideal.

Well till a 3" GB comes out, any job too heavy for my Delica could fall back to my 112, it's 3" with a flat saber grind. Obviously not in the same league as a GB, but you got to admit there're tough knives for $60.

To start, I love my GB1, it's the best folder I own. My favorite is the BM 940-1 but the GB1 is my best.

When I first saw the GB2 I thought, "man they really screwed up the GB1." Then I saw an interview with Gayle discussing the GB2. He said that although the knives had similar attributes (same steel, same scale material, proud liners), the GB2 had a completely different frame based on one of his customs. The blade has slightly improved geometry which is now even thinner behind the edge and longer than the GB1.
With these changes combined with the thinner handle it seems to be geared more towards EDC whereas the GB1 is geared more towards hard use.

I now tend to look at them as different knives that kind of look the same. Because of this I will probably try the GB2 and judge it based on its own merits and not a direct comparison to, or a redesigned, GB1.

GB940Rookie. I think you just explained what I couldn't! That's it! Basically two different knives for different purposes.

They are most definitely different knives. The naming convention and marketing copy encouraged people to draw an evolutionary line between the two models. It's based on his custom Model 4.
Mr. Bradley is the first up in this video, where he talks about what GB940Rookie referenced.

How does the blade tip on these suckers hold up to say, prying open a paint can?

hoimin. Thank you for the video, I had not seen that one!

If you go back in this thread, Chris "Anagarika" posted a link about hard use of the GB, they used it pretty hard for things similar to the type uses you ask about. I personally wouldn't use them for prying, they are tempered hard for edge retention. The GB 1 would have the stronger tip of the two though.

Here is one of Gayle's Model 4 customs. You can see the frame resemblance.
