But I've got a question for the other ET owners out there. Is it normal for the blade to get a ding in it where it impacts the spring upon closing?

Sorry about the bad photos, you get the idea. I tried to get a picture of the ding but my camera couldn't handle the fine focusing.

The E.T. is definitely some fantastic technology. I love mine!

The way the knife is designed, the blade tip should not be contacting the spring at the butt end when closing. The nut-and-bolt assembly that attaches the frame to the bottom of the blade's tang should be nestling into the U-shaped frame cavity under the pivot bolt and stopping the blade before the knife tip reaches that spring...mine's 1/8"+ away from the spring when closed.

If yours is contacting the spring, I'm sorry to hear that...it sounds like a job for Kershaw's excellent customer service.

Thanks for the info. I see what you mean about the nut hitting the "U-shaped frame cavity." Excellent concept, but it isn't working on mine. I'll contact Kershaw immediately and post the results here.

Just got off the phone with Tiffany at Kershaw. They'll replace the knife under warranty, which I'm grateful for. However, I am saddened that I'll have to go another week or more before playing with it again . . .

Is there a coated-blade black-handle ET? I was looking at my preferred knife store, and they have black-handle with plain and combo edge, but only a shiny blade. But they have urban camo with and without coating. I'm thinking that I'll probably just pony up the extra 15 or whatever and get the UC one. It's unlikely to get a lot of EDC use anyway, since it's flashy enough as is.

The Urban Camo frame with black-coated blade is great looking in person, better than in any knife-seller site pics I've seen! Wish I could take decent photos! :)

There are black-framed E.T.s out there with black-coated combo-edged blades (the 1900BLKST), but I haven't seen any plain-edged black-coated blades except on the Urban Camo.

There...fixed it for ya...

Now, now, just because everyone else has cut themselves with an E.T., doesn't mean Running Wolf will. Maybe he's some kind of E.T. prodigy.

I mean he's clearly had it way more than 5 minutes and hasn't lost any digits... at least none that he's mentioned (and we know he's closed it). :D

maybe he wasn't playing with it enough!:) besides i felt it was an honor to cut myself with mine!:D

You're right, Jack. I often feel a great swell of pride and say to myself 'That's a damn fine knife I just used to cut off my thumb', just before I pass out from blood loss...

Cuts? I can put my E.T. through all the paces the guy in the video does without any cuts (so far). :D;):)

The only knife-related cut I've received in the last several months is a small puncture in the palm of my hand from a Needs Work. :)

I do have nightmares about my SG2 JYDII however, it's so sharp! ;)

I played with my friend's E.T. -- accidentally sliced a bit of my 4th finger.... I need more practice!

May I ask, how does the ET fare against other similarly sized knives or maybe perhaps kershaws? It's just that the handle looks a little less strong than normal handles and I cannot tell if it has a good lock or not. In fact, how good is the locking?

Thanks guys.

The blade can't pivot (by pushing down on it or whatever) when the knife is open without the user actually toggling the frame. Plus, when you grip the handle, the frame can't toggle at all...the tighter you grip, the tighter that blade's locked in place. A spring biases movement in whichever direction you select...i.e. the spring drives the knife open when opening it, and closed when closing it...this spring isn't a lock, just a directional assist. There is a seperate lock to keep the knife closed until released and prevent accidental toggling.

I wouldn't want to punch holes through car doors with an E.T. (or, really, with anything else), but it's surprisingly strong and will more-than-hold-up to any cutting task you'd use a knife of this size for. Aiding in that is perhaps one of the sharpest blades on any knife.

Ray :)

Thanks mate, the explanation helped in understanding the mechanics of this nice knife. So far all my kershaws have been unexpectedly (I'm new in knives) pleasant and satisfying due to the quality and durability. That's why I have my sights set on an ET, Groove Tanto, Ener (name unsure) and lastly a Zero Tolerance (any with the hinderer lock thingy). Both my JYDII and Lahar have become my favorites giving me a good impression of Kershaw :)

Really Kershaws have a nice range and quality with decent prices. In looks too there is a huge diversity and class. The Kershaw forum itself is very active and has a lot of activity. I'll definitely be getting more in time :)

I am in fact an ET prodigy. How'd ya guess? :D

I didn't hurt myself with the ET mostly because I packed it up and sent it back after about 10 minutes.

I did manage to slice myself pretty good last night with an old POS kitchen knife I decided to sharpen. Like a dumbass I was careless with it because I had an attitude of "It's just an old POS knife, how can it hurt me?"

Four stitches and a nicked tendon later I got my answer . . . :(

Hope you heal well and quickly.

Good thing it wasn't with the ET, I doubt the tendon would have been just nicked.

Mine had the same problem. I didn't really want to understand why... Kershaw replaced in a nano second anyway
