Hmm, well I don't own a RAT-5, I do own several RC knives, as well as a RAT-3 and a few TAKs. I haven't noticed any of the described quality problems with my RATs or TAKs. I prefer the TAK over the RAT-5, strictly on weight and feel when I am using it, and I haven't been able to get a RC-6 yet. The quality issues.. well I guess if I remembered what my knives looked like new, I might see a difference, but since but my RC-3 and RAT-3 have been "well loved" (i.e. put thru hell and back) the fit and finish is long gone..
But I am not shy about the fact that I love my TAKs or my RAT-3. Or my RC-3 or Izula's. I think they are all well thought out products. The biggest different you'll find is that RC is a totally different company then Ontario after the sale.
