I love my Vantage

This thread is opinion based, as most are... I gave mine. This knife is a piece of crap. Did I spew a book load of garbage defending a KNIFE, no... a few of you did.. get over it.. goodbye buck fans.

Go troll some where else, if you want to trash talk stay off the buck site, its not welcome here.

Dogstar I love mine too...one would be hard pressed to find a better value for the small cost ya pay for a lot of knife. I got my first one which is the small rubber handled one for about $15 @ a big store in Tx....my daughter misplaced it somewhere when I left it with her to fly back to SoCal after visiting her there. Bought it just so I'd have a good daily chore thing and didn't want to leave it, but did not want to check bag to fly it home.....I liked it so much that I tried to find one at the Orange county gun show and glomned onto the larger Vantage Pro for $75.... I could have paid less I guess, but I would pay more if the cost was higher because it stays insanely sharp with that hard S30v steel....love the charcoal micarta-like handles too. I cut a lot of heavy card board and it just stays sharp and tight....thanks Buck for making such a good knife available at a super easonable cost-as usual! :-)

Glad to hear that you love your Vantage dogstar. I like my Vantage, and definitely think it's one of the best US made knives in that price range.

I have one. The basic one, with the regular Buck steel and the green Paperstone handles. I sanded the handles a little because the edges were a little sharp for my comfort, but other than that, it's great. The blade is not quite centered, but it is not rubbing on anything. I use the thumbhole to open it one-handed. I have flipped it also, but day-to-day regular use I don't flip. It regularly opens and breaks down boxes, cuts various types of cordage and tape, opens envelopes, and scrapes stickers off stuff (all regular jobs for an EDC I would think). It has done lots of other stuff on an irregular basis. I need to sharpen it very infrequently. I also carry a Leatherman with a decent knife blade, but if the task calls for a knife, I usually go to the Vantage. I consider the Vantage a terrific value.

Some balls coming in here and trashing Buck knives!

The matter is that Buck makes a quality knives for their price range.

I have a 284 and 486, and for their price (under $20) they are excellent knives. I have two vantage pros on the way and had a chance to carry a friend's and it is a better knife than the Spyderco Native I currently own at the same price and steel.

The lock on the Vantage and the build are plenty strong on the Vantage for the purposes of a folder. If the Vantage can't handle it you should be using a fixed blade anyway.

I love my large Avid. I haven't carried anything else since I got it. I thought about a Pro, but I'm so happy with the Avid I think I'll just stick with it. I have not had any of the problems I've read about.

Maybe my favorite knife, especially for the price, and certainly the one I carry the most. I've given away half a dozen as gifts.

I think it's an unbeatable value: I don't know of any cheaper knives that are as good, and I don't know of any better knives at its price.

It's the best knife at its price point, and that says a lot.

When I compare my Vantage Pro with my Endura and my Griptilian, I see slightly less fit and finish, better materials , and equally good function. It s certainly equivalent to the other two classics as an edc/utility knife IMO. Mine has been very durable in moderate use. It has been in my edc rotation for a couple of years.

I love my Vantage pro. If I could change anything I would make it a frame lock. It is a fine knife. like it enough I got my son one.

I agree that the Vantage series if one of the better designs I have owned. I have a Large Avid for when I am out of the office and a small Pro for when I am at work. The blade style and shape seems to cover any and everything that I have ever wanted. They have served me when on many camping, fishing, hiking trips, do great when I'm bbqing and everyone snag up all the plastic forks and all other every day activities.

I find that people arent scared of it like they were of some of my previous black coated knives.

Also, I performs as well if not better than many of my benchmade and other higher end knives.

Hey,

Its been awhile since we had some wild talk on something. First off let me say that unless someone violates the forum rules they can express their personal opinion on any forum they chose. As folks who are interested in a single company and like to discuss the knives made by that company we should be able to take on easily the discussion challenge of someone to express their negative opinion and even give a little trash talk, as long as it does not violate BladeForums rules. If rules are violated let me know quickly the need for the "Moderator Hammer".:grumpy:

We like to defend our brand when someone is critical. I call on all forum members to analyze someone who comes in guns blazing for what it is, likely an effort to 'rile' you up to type stuff you would likely not type if we were talking to regular Buck knife owners. I say lets use our 'hot blood energy' build a brick wall around such "baiting" with facts, experiences and calm opinions. Then people who enjoy the thrill of brainless argument will go elsewhere. But again I say, they have to right to express their opinion in the proper manner.

That said my opinion and experience, is that the small Vantage that I frequently carry has served me well, without fault. The price is a attraction that some other knives of similar construction just cannot meet. If you seek the perfect Vantage then go to a brick and mortar store an buy one you pick out. I had to wait several months before I was able to go on a trip where such a store was located. When not carrying a 300 my small, well centered blade, light grey scaled, Swedish steel bladed pocket scapel clips next to my billfold, ready for any action.

An one day soon I am going to have enough of them taken apart an put back together, to figure out how to EASILY place some stag or jigged bone or other fancy scale material on one to make mine a knife of blessed holy like perfection....

I totally agree with Craig on that. I've been very guilty in the past of "rising to the bait" so to speak, but now I just do my best to ignore and not respond to trouble makers or potential trouble makers. I find the forum to be a much nicer place to visit since I came to that decision.

While I really never carry a Vantage, large or small, if I did, it would probably be one of these three small models that I have.

Plumberdv, are those custom scales? Looks like grey carbon.

Yes, they are all three carbon fiber. I like the bottom two the best because of the machined gooves in the scales.

Beautiful. I like that top one - looks like snakeskin.

Ok, so I have not hung out in Buck land enough to hate the Vantage Pro I've had for 2 years, or to be plagued by it's 'problems' (I guess if nobody told me there are problems, I don't have them... Ignorance is bliss in my pocket). I love the knife. The edge is outstanding, the scales comfy, the lock fine, the blade size great, and the knife gets a thumbs up in my book. Definitely a keeper in my collection.

Btw, Sloth 357, I see your name fits. Let's go to a Buck subforum and rip on Buck knives in general. See the X in the top right corner of your screen? Click and never come back.... please.

Well, after lots of flipping, I took the knife apart and cleaned it. It now snaps open with an authoritative "thunk." Yup, I still love my Vantage.
