I Love This Sub-Forum

So many have said it exactly the way I would, if I had the ability to put to words what is felt. Well done Sarah!! Truly amazing. I happen to know that Todd has wanted a a TC Barlow and that you gifted such a treasure is a testament to your character. The fact that it happens so regularly around here is a testament to the character of the characters that sit on this fine porch.

Todd, I can't wait to see it when next we gather for a cold beer and warm conversation. I will call you to try and arrange it. Perhaps we can get Jeff aka rockgolfer to join us.

I've acquired some knives since I received this beauty, but this is what I'm carrying and have been since I got it.....

Thank you, Sarah, for this knife. And thank you to the rest of you who have made this sub-forum a place of friendship, generosity, education, and warmth. You've made this porch a wonderful place to be.

You're more than welcome. That you're carrying and using and loving the knife confirms that it's in the right hands; your words confirm that it's in the right heart. Thank you.

... When btmccutcheon posted his picture of the knife here on the first of the month, I wrote the following:

Possessions cannot prevent sorrow, nor produce lasting joy in and of themselves.

But sometimes, the right thing(s) at the right time can point towards (and tether us to) a deeper holding beyond our own means and days, lifting our heads and strengthening our hearts, making us laugh (and maybe cry) and marvel at pocketable friendship made real once again.

At least, that's what I've come to know, often through the astounding generosity of others here. I don't even have to be the direct recipient; you all make me better.

- who loves her stuff

~~~~~~
ModocED, when your box o' bounty arrived here with me, I was not only bowled over (still!), but encouraged to send my own knife, above, to the man I had had a growing sense that it now belonged to. It went out the next day.
(plk7, and Jack, Lastrodeo, sitflyer, Andi and Campbell and CHARLIE and Lyle and so many others I'll feel awful about later because I didn't name you rightinthismoment: you had a part in this, too-- this bigger, better story we're writing.)
As many of you know, the knife in question is from the very first run, ever, of the TC barlows. No one had yet seen anything like this, at least not in modern production. I well remember all the banter and growing excitement in Charlie's barlow thread (and behind the scenes) leading up to its unveiling, and the wonder of watching it come into production in all its various covers.
As I understand it, ebony was almost an afterthought, not part of the original plan but added at the last minute when a small amount of the material became available.
Part of this knife's irreplaceability to me is that, had I not spied pictures of one-bladed ebony beauties only-- no twos-- rolling down the line and asked Charlie about it in the 11th hour, there would have been no two-bladed ebony barlows in that first run, at all.
And then, this beauty, PPP etch and all.
I love (looooove) this knife.
Which is now btmccutcheon's, with joy.
The part he left out, the clincher in my own small world and heart: For Scout.
Thanks, everyone, for your kindness to one another, and to me.
You do make me better.
Onward. :)
Written a few years ago in response to a member who didn't quite start out right here...
"There are High Class clubs, Adventure clubs, Rowdy clubs, Kids clubs, and Front Porches.
Traditional strikes me as a Front Porch, one is to remember that they are at someone's house when you're on the Front Porch.
Impressionable youngun's might be runnin around, the girls may be within earshot, neighbors have to be lived with every day.
Cussing and rowdiness will only be tolerated to a point before the homeowner puts their foot down and requests that kind of behavior be taken elsewhere.
You want to loudly argue about the merits and faults of a Peanut vs a Swayback?, you go to your house.
If you want to sit back, relax and watch the world pass by while in the company of folk who appreciate the simplicity of a Stockman as well as a fine glass of iced tea, then you're welcome to.
Pull up a seat, relax...
Even though I don't spend as much time here as I probably should, I still feel that this is quite probably one of the most civilized corners of the interwebz and it is often a respite from the "bruskness" presented to us by so much of the world...
A lot of people work very hard to keep it that way.
Simply put; Yes, I too love this subforum...
Looking forward to it, buddy. I always enjoy our discussions over a cold beer. I Just wish more of these fine folks could join us.
I joined 3/9 of this year. In just two months I have been humbled by the examples of comraderie and respect in this sub-forum. This has become a place of peace when I am stressed. A place to relax and have fun. I have never been made to feel foolish no matter how basic the question nor how many times its been asked before. The culture here nurtures new collectors and welcomes them rather then operate as an exclusive club. This is rare in my expierence. My passion for knives has increased tenfold because of the people here that represent them. The people here that make you feel good about your knife collection no matter how large, small, common or rare it happens to be. Cheers to you BT for this wonderful thread, and cheers to everyone for making this sub-forum the incredible place that it is.
Congrats on your very special TC Barlow and MAJOR kudos to Sarah for this incredible gesture of one of the most sought-after of all the TC Barlows.
This is indeed a family atmosphere here, where everyone is kind, patient and helpful. It's a warm and friendly place to hang out and learn and share.
Thanks to everyone for making this forum the special place that it is :thumbup:
That's a great knife a wonderful gesture. I don't own any of the TCs yet but they all look great!
Drew pretty much expresses exactly my impressions and experiences here in the traditional sub-forum. :thumbup::thumbup: I look forward to stopping by The Porch, at least for a few minutes, at least once a day. :D As I try to catch up on sort of limited time at BF this week, I'm finding several threads sharing inspiring tales of generosity!
Outstanding post. Outstanding knife. Outstanding gesture by Sarah.
...
I think we need a centralized archive of this goodwill. Maybe a thread dedicated exclusively to traditional knives that you were gifted from another forum member either straight-up or via a giveaway. Would be nice to have all of these stories in once place.
plk7 has accurately identified 3 outstanding components of this fine story. :cool::cool:
I also like plk7's idea of a "generosity thread"; I'd have an embarrassing amount of content I could contribute! :eek::o:eek:
Well put, Rachel! :thumbup::thumbup:
(And you probably give me as many chuckles per post as anyone here! :D:D "circle of knife" LOL!! My daughter is just the right age that I've had to watch "The Lion King" too many times to count!)
