I love to fidget with a number of knives that I own-autos, assisted, good flippers etc. How bad is this for the knife? I have heard some guys say that they have flipped all these knives THOUSANDS of times without a problem but I was wondering if anyone had any testing info. I apologize if this question has been asked before.

Kinda like everything else, play with something too long and it will start to wear out. I've seen water drops from rain erode concrete over time.
Where I work at, console chairs don't last as long as they should because the unit is manned 24/7 with different people using the same chair day in and day out.

Like Ajack60 Ajack60 said, if you play with it too much, you'll go blind. Umm...maybe I'm answering a different question.

Like most quality things, a well-made knife is meant to open and close countless times. If the knife is properly maintained, it should serve that in that role. If you use it without the correct lubrication, cleanliness and alignment, you'll shorten the life of any knife. Stick with well made, well supported knives and give them the proper care and have a blast fidgeting!

Six words: Axis Style Lock and Button Lock.

Chris Reeve would tell ya if ya like to fidget, get yourself a string of prayer beads.

I tend to agree. Only deploy the blade when you intend to use it. But then again, I'm kinda entering the curmudgeonly segment on my timeline.

So you kids have fun with your Shark Locks....just STAY OFF MY LAWN! :p

Admittedly I do "fidget" with some of my folders. But I always felt that there's something in that the feel of the blade (and handle) and operation of deployment becomes more familiar in your hand the more you open and close so that you operate / use it better. Not all of my flippers feel or are manipulated the same. There is "something" useful in fidgeting.

guessing anything with springs
would be the first to go.
slamming on to stop pins
and eventual pivot wear
is unavoidable in the life of a folder.
but why get overly worried
its only a knife.
i would be more concerned
advancing an arthritic condition
from hand over use :)
but i understand completely that
a fixation for fidgeting is about
the only valid excuse to carry a knife
to work for any knifenut who is chained
to a stressful desk job isn't it :)

Of course knives are awesome but they aren’t toys. Get one of these things:

Don't listen to the haters fidget away! At the end of the day it is a great excuse to have several knives to cycle through. Like anything else, it will wear on a knife but if the tolerances are good than it should last for years. I have broken some omega springs but have taken to making my own to avoid sending them back to lifesharp services. So long as any one knife isnt getting all the fidget duty then you should be okay. Tighten up the pivot here and there if you start seeing blade play and fidget on
