I made a leather doohickey so I can finally carry my large slipjoints!

You could also just stitch a straight line up from the bottom through your pants pocket, making it in effect "two pockets" side by side, the smaller one (nearer the middle) being slightly narrower, to hold the knife upright in. (Of course, I'm talking about the thin cotton pocket INSIDE the pant leg.) Make the stitched line a bit shorter than the knife, so you can still get at the end of the knife to get it out. Or if you don't want a permanent alteration, what about putting a large baby-pin through (starting on the side away from your body, so that when it's in place you don't feel it) to form a small separate sheath-sized slot. Don't laugh- it works great! Especially if the knife is in a thin leather pouch.

Makes me slap my forehead. It is so simple and ingenious. I will copy that right away.
