People always think of Thor's hammer as, well, a hammer.
But did you know it was originally an axe rather than a hammer?
And now it's a short sword...

The creation began on the hot, sweaty day of July 17th, as the temperature was 34 degrees Centigrade (93.2 degrees Fahrenheit), with 83% humidity.
A work this mighty required a forge built of the very Earth itself:

And the Gladius my friend forged:

The dual normalizing cycles went off without a hitch, but the damn quench tank leaked Canola oil all over the back yard, so the heat treat went...well, it didn't harden.
So, I took it to the adepts of the Machine at McClearie & Sons Custom Heat Treating of Windsor, that they might infuse the sword with a portion of the power wielded by the mighty Machine God.
They succeeded, and for a monetary sacrifice of $20, they heat treated it, with a dual temper bringing it to 57 Rockwell. Hardened and tested, by a company which has been doing industrial heat treating for over 28 years. :)

Full convex grind, with the grind coming up higher towards the front for better weight distribution. The grind nearer the handle does not come up as high, giving more lateral strength, while also making it work better as a "wedge" for splitting.

It chops like a small to medium axe, and clears a trail like a machete.

Went through 60 pounds of charcoal...the forge was breathtakingly inefficient. :D
