(updated, now with in use pics and sheath pics)
well i have actually made a 2 or three knives before this, but they werent so good. so this is the first knife that i think actually deserves recognition.

it is sawblade steel, about 1mm thick (yea, its pretty thin). it is 7'' overall, with about a 2.5'' blade (3'' cutting edge). the handle is oak, from some extra peices of wood flooring. the blade is convex ground, and it sports a natural patina left from its days as a cross-cut saw. for putting the edge on it, i didnt use a belt grinder or anything, as i dont have one yet, but if i make another, i will use a grinder. i would have liked to have made a longer blade, but with such thin steal, i have to keep the blade legth about 3.5'' ore below, else it will be far too flexible. the handle is held on with JB weld, since i dont really have the equiptment to deal with pins currently.

unfortunatly i havent had time to make a sheath yet, but i will get to that next weekend (ill post pics). i also didnt really get to test it outside today, as it got dark pretty fast. i did snap a few photos though (the dusk-time lighting didnt really make for great photos though):

in the last few pictures, it has liseed oil on it, so it should have soaked in by tomorrow morning. before starting, i figured that the handle would be an obvious shortcoming, but it looks to me like it turned out pretty well, plus, it is surprisingly comfortable to hold. towards the blade, i sanded in a spot for a thumb for use during chest-lever cuts.

i was thinking of doing a passaround with a knife i plan on making iddenticle to this, so, would there be any interest, and mods, would it be okay? i would do the passaround with this one, but if somthing were to go wrong, id rather it not happen to my first real knife.

Looks good. I enjoy it but it's a lot of work without the proper tools. Still, not a bad hobby. After making a few I can see why most Makers Make short Blades.:D

Has anyone tried the Fallkniven WM1 Sporting knife? I was just checking one out online.

Nice knife. Does it slice the small things really well? That thin of a blade seems like it would be perfect for it!

yea, i cant imagine making a chopper...

i plan on getting some better tools though, since i like making the knives and i might get a little more into it at some point, hopefully soon.

Very Nice!!! The handle looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks darn great for only your second or third!

I like it. I'm into a bit thicker stock than this, but i would enjoy being part of a passaround. The handle is very comfortable looking.

Very nice bit of work there. The handle looks comfortable! No doubt this will make an excellent user. I look forward to hearing a few performance reports.

All the best,

- Mike

looks like a good knife, i like that handle alot and the patina is looking good.

i usually like narrower blades, but with thinner steel that can mean that they are more flexible, which isn't really what you are going for in this style of blade.

looking forward to more action shots!

You should get some decent performance out of that. I've made a few that thin and they tend to work out fine as long as the steel doesn't get burned- it's hard to heat just right at that thckness. Hell, I think mike over near santa cruz has one that thickness, a bird and trout :D

I like the attention to the handle, and it looks like it has come out wonderfully.
