I made my own steel today! Well, sort of...

Gee, I never get bored coming here. You guys are a trip. Scraps, saw filings, ball bearings, powdered steels....never a dull moment (or knife)!!! Sure glad the server migration completed and everything's back online. I was having serious withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks for taking the time to post guys. All the best, Phil

Pretty cool steel, that will be nice etched in blade form.

Remember to use only bandsaw dust not grinding dust which contains abrasive particles !!

You could spread it out and separate it with a magnet maybe :D

I put a couple magnets in my dust/spark arrestor. This collects all the steel particles and sends most all the unwanted stuff into the dust collector. I still get a little grit left in the dust and will mag it out one or two more times. But then I did get over 15lbs of 52100 saw chip when I cut up that 500lbs.

I'm with you Phil. I tremember telling my wife yesterday that I missed my "knife strangers". "Knife strangers" is what she calls the people here on the forum when I am up too late and should be in bed or taking the trash out. This is of course despite the fact that some of you are in fact no longer strangers.

Allen
