I've always thought of myself of more of a "budget" knife kind of guy. While I can certainly appreciate knives costing more than the $50 I'm willing to spend (seriously, that is my top limit, and I've not spent that for a single blade yet), I can't see going beyond that amount. I'd much rather admire others' knives that cost more since I'd be too afraind to use/lose a knife over that cost.

Well, all last night I kept dreaming of Spyderco knives. Yellow handles, black handles, red handles, orange handles, all had the same plain blade, but over and over, dreaming of colorful Spydercos!!

Now I may need to get my hands on one!!!

You can find a number of Spyderco knives at or under your budget limit. Several Dragonfly variants and the Ambitious/Tenacious/Persistence line for example.

Or if you are willing to stretch just a bit higher, up to the $65-ish range, you can pick up a Delica or Endura.

This is assuming you are a good shopper and know how to find decent pricing on the Internet.

I am a good shopper and do lots of comparison shopping. Google and I are tight!

I just know that if I get one, I'll be too worried about ruinging it or losing it that it will just be relegated to a drawer. I just found it funny that I was dreaming about a knive I'd never even considered buying.

The Delica is what I'd want though. Not that I want to want it!

I have seen many lightly used delicas on the exchange around $45-50, in a few different configurations and colors.
Enduras about that price as well, dragonflies at about $40. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up one of those. They will always be around if you happen to misplace it (unlikely). I find that I take more effort to keep track of something if I spent a little more on it, but that's me.

Only reason I could see not getting one, is that it will open the floodgates to every other spyderco that cost 2x, 3x, or 4x more than the delica. But you seem to have some amount of willpower, so you "should" be fine. ;)

If you look hard enough you can find delicas and enduras for around 52-55 bucks. Bento box shop has them for around those prices.

I have recently found myself doing the same thing. I have gone along the "budget" route for a while and drooling over others high end knives. Now I have the mindset (or at least I think I do?) That I am buying it for me so use won't bother me. Saving for a spyderco military or a stretch. Also want to try super blue and maybe some custom knifemakers' products. Nothing wrong with budget but there is a reason why we dream about expensive knives. (That's normal, right?)

I picked up a lightly used waved delica 4 from a member here for $25.00, what's not to love about that?...

Psssssh, Spyderco's are meant to be used. If you get one, you will use it, don't be silly. Life is too short to deny yourself something you want and then not use it. That's madness.

I don't mean for this to sound mean, infact I say it jokingly...

I used to be scared to loose higher priced knives but after years of carrying and never loosing a single one (knock on wood) I got over it, today I'm carrying a CRK Sebenza and a spyderco GB THAT ARNT EVEN MINE! I found I have a little pattern where I pat all my pockets and take note of all my crap at random times during the day, if I ever did loose anything I would know before I left the area. Don't let being scared of loosing it keep you from carrying a better knife. It sounds like you were dreaming of a delica or endura or possible even a PM2, just break down and get one man, trust me you won't loose it*

*Now I do have my cheaper knives that I carry when I have a higher possibility of loosing them but I still carry my same iphone 5c and wallet and [multiple] ~$100 flashlights and have never lost anything.

Same goes for me, I find myself going through that routine throughout the day too - it definitely helps keep track of everything.

For example, a full pic of one day's item's I was carrying. I used my HTC One to take the picture so it is another item to keep track of... Maybe I need to invest in a murse (man-purse) to carry all this stuff instead of just coat pockets lol!

Its funny that I have that worry about losing a knife. I've been buying Oakley sunglasses since 1989 and my parents (I was a senior in HS then) were worried that I'd lose them. The only shades that I don't still own that I purchased are:
The first pair I bought, Razor blades, sold to a friend
2 pairs of 1990ish Frogskins - gave one pair to a friend (just found out he sold them at a garage sale a bit over a year ago) and 2nd pair given to my sister who tossed them after scratching a lens while in collage.
1 pair of Ray Ban Clubmasters, stolen out of my truck along w/my stereo system
1 pair of Ray Ban Wayferers, given to wife's cousin who thought it would be a great idea to swim in the Pacific w/them on. She had them for 3 days and lost them. I had them for over 15 years
Oakley eyejackets that I stupidly tossed in the trash after scratching lenses and some film build up (probably from hair gel) on the inside lens

So, I am sitting on several hundreds of dollars of Oakleys at home, yet I worry about a knife. I've only lost one knife, and that is because it was on my keychain (SAK classic) when I dropped my keys at a bar on base. I got everything but the SAK back.

I have the Mont Blonc pen my buddy gave me as a groomsman gift, and rarely lose things. So maybe I'll drop hints to the wife for her to get me one for my birthday in a few months.

Sorry for the novel.

you didn't come off as mean at all, and I understand what you are saying.

I'm carrying 2 ZL's and 2 spyderco's today myself. I always have my polished SC52 in my pocket and I rotat between a quark and a SC600w on my belt. Today I've got my SC600w. Its nice to have a light that offers that many levels of light while still allowing direct access to turbo and moonlight and with such good battery life.

You know it doesn't stop there, right? You'll eventually break down and get that Delica and happily carry it for a while. Then you'll start looking at the Manix, or maybe a Sage. Soon you'll find yourself owning one of them and lusting after a PM2 or a Military. Then you'll start wanting to branch out and explore other brands. Before you know it you're thinking, "You know, that Sebenza isn't really so much after all. I could just cut back on lunches for a few months. Oooh! Look at those William Henry E10's!! Sure would be nice..."

By then that Delica will have been forgotten in a drawer somewhere.

Don't ask me how I know this.

I honestly "LOL'd" at this.

seriously, I'm generally a "Brand Loyalist". It may take me a while to find which one, but once I do, I stick w/it. I am in to BMX bikes and my frame brand is S&M. They have an overseas line called Fit. My eldest is on an 18" Fit and once he moves to the 20" Fit, my youngest will move up to the 18". I may just bite the bullet and ask the wife to pick me up a PM2 for my b-day later this year, that should solve my problems! Before I settled on my S&M (US made by the way!!) I was getting new frames/parts/etc at the rate of 2 a month. Frames are HARD to hide!! I had about 17 bikes in the garage at one point, mostly disassembled.

So, if I decide that Spyderco is my brand, I can quit buying Sog, CRKT, and Chinese made Kershaws. Not that anything is wrong w/any of those, but I usually end up w/more money in cheaper stuff than I would have spent on what I really wanted.

When I worked at the bike shop and later at the stereo shop, I'd frequenlty tell my customers that it is cheaper to buy the one you want first, than to settle for something you don't want.

Is that your wedding ring in the middle of that pic? Looks like a lot of nice gear there!

Cool man, gotta love Zebralight light and Spyderco blades; two awesome companies producing sweet products.

My Sc600 has been a daily companion since I got it as well as the peak eiger 2XAA penlight pictured in my post above.
