I got a Swamp Rat Howling Rat through a trade, and I've got to say... I love this knife. The handle is probably the most comfortable I've ever handled (Res C is badass stuff) and I really like the feel of the knife. This one was stripped of it's coating by Scott Gossman, and it's one mean slicer. It makes fuzz sticks well and is still tough enough to baton through pretty thick wood. The edge holds -really- well. I'm seriously impressed with this knife. The only downside, I guess, is that this uncoated SR101 is extremely prone to rust and stain. I mean, it rusts just for the hell of it. But, otherwise, I'm stoked! :D

Those really are some good knives.

I just "rediscovered" mine:

I got away from using it for whatever reason, but started fooling around with it again recently & after I got a good edge on it I was very happy with it.

Hope you like yours too.

lil' Blade with a big choil is a waste of blade,I dont mind the choil but make it smaller.good knife bro,

Honestly, the choil doesnt bother me that much. I mean, yeah, it could be smaller. But, I like it for chocking up on (i.e. fuzz sticks and fine work) and it's still got plenty of blade for my uses. :D

Now I need a ranger band so I can strap my mikro canadian to it... how about them apples? :p:thumbup:

That handle material is pretty awesome stuff. It is too bad it is so rare outside of the Busse family. For example - just imagine a basic Fallkniven F1, S1, A1 series with Respirene C handles???

Glad you like the MCII .. no ranger band need cut your self an inner tube.

I really do like it. It's actually displaced my Para-Military as my EDC knife. I mean, that tiny bastard really does have some serious cutting power!

Love those 2nd Gen Howlers.

Stripped mine too. I worked it up close to a mirror polish then decided I hated it. Cleaned it up a bit more near the tang then gave it a Scotch Brite finish. Heres a pic I took when it was still polished. I'll try to get a more recent photo soon.

I'm a huuuuge fan of the Howler. For those who don't like the big choil, the first ones were quite a bit smaller.

...and it's a pretty strong knife too! Howling Rat Demo

Congrats on a sweet blade.

:D :D

What did you folks use to strip the finish?

I am getting ready to do the same to an older model Blackjack / Becker Companion with the gray painted on finish.
