I need a 2, 2-1/2" blade - How's the Kershaw Scallion?

I find myself needing a smaller knife when going out and have yet to add a Kershaw to my fold. I already have a SOG Flash 1 which is quite a nice FFG blade and literally disappears in the pocket but I'm miffed at SOG right now so it's in "time out". I've been looking at the Scallion and see the reviews are quite favorable. Problem is I am so spoiled by the performance of my absolute favorite EDC the Para D2 that I'm reluctant to try out 420HC. I don't mind touching up my knives on the Sharpmaker a couple times a week, but I'd like to know if it can handle even a days worth of cutting boxes and such? Like many, I don't actually need another knife, but what does that have to do with anything!

Pick up a Dragonfly2, around 2.5" blade. If you want a Kershaw, a Scallion would be a decent choice.

Scallions nice, my gf purchased a pink one. The knife is INSANELY ergonomic friendly. The flipper is the the easiest to use in comparison to the leek and chive. The knifes recurve is excellent for cutting, thing is sharp and thin. Super light to boot.

Few swipes on your sharpening system here and there and it's back to new. Milage will very depending on how you use it of course

I've looked at the Dragonfly G10 a hundred times and am sure it's a great knife. It would be a really nice little Cousin to my Foliage green Para ;^). I just thought if I am going to buy a "little guy" I'll just save a few bucks and add my first Kershaw as long as it isn't junk.

I have the leek. I cut anything that gets in my way. I sharpen it up with my Sharpener ceramic sticks just a couple of slice and it is ready to shave my arm once again.

420HC isn't so bad when its done right, and Kershaw does theirs pretty good. My Scallion performs pretty darned well all in all. I've had to touch it up a few times, but a couple of swipes brings it back, so it really isn't a big deal. That being said, Spyderco doesn't make a little knife that I don't like, including the bug....

If you want a Kershaw with a 2 1/2" blade, you might look at their new half-ton.
8Cr13MoV steel will hold an edge better than any 420HC.

I have a Scallion and a G10 Dragonfly and I like the DF a bit better. I prefer the DF for the grippier G10 handle, the ergonomics, the VG10 and the tip up carry.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with the Scallion. I have one and I really like the look of it, and the ergonomics. Plus, it just disappears in the pocket.

I have a scallion and really like it. I think you would really like it. And for the price I don't think you can beet it. Go to the dealers section and find Kershawguy's Blems. You can not find the blem and I got my Scallion for $22.00 shipped. Can't beet that with a stick. Here is a pick or two of it.

I have bought 5 Kershaws from him and they where all blems. And I did not find the blem in any of them. Look at what the people say in that thread. All positive.

Here it is:

Hope this helps.

I have several Kershaw AO knives, and the scallion is my favorite of all. It is large enough that it is easily opened and closed one handed, but small enough to carry in the pocket as an EDC. For me it's just the perfect size.

Byrd Raven
Byrd Finch
Boker Subcom/Wharcom
Kershaw Mini Mojito

are some other choices to check out...

Kershaw is every bit as good as Spyderco , or any other production knife company out there for that matter. Their warranty is one of the best in the business , they will ship you replacement parts ( should you need them ) at no cost and no questions asked , how many other companies do that sort of stuff in this day and age ?

420HC is a fantastic , time proven steel and Kershaw always gets it right no matter the steel used.

I have three Scallions and all function/perform flawlessly, the blades take and hold a razor sharp edge , slight recurve to them make cutting a breeze. They are comfortable to use , small enough to not be a pocket hog yet big enough for most chores you would come across. The aluminum handled versions feel nice in the hand and not really slippery like many of the steel handled Syderco's. The zytel handled version is great too.
The AO on them is wonderful ! Flicks open in a split second and do not let the liner-lock throw you off , I have spinewhacked the bejeebus out of mine and not once have they even came close to failing.

Get a Scallion , I cannot imagine how you could be disappointed.

Spyderco makes almost all the small knives a guy will ever want or need.

I'm about to get a Cricket.

I also own a scallion and a Spyderco dragonfly - I definitely prefer the d-fly. It's more ergonomic, feels better in the hand, has better steel - it's a great slicer, as well..

My first Kershaw was the green Scallion bought 6.5+ yr ago and shown below. It easily fits a pants watch pocket. Mine was an EDC for years - finally resharpened by me with my new Sharpmaker several years ago - after the picture. Great little knife - replaced ultimately by the Spydie S30V Native several years ago - it by Benchmades.

Before the picture was made, I had used it to cut the plastic water supply line buried in my yard. A pinhole leak in it had to be cut out and a splice installed - it was a Sunday afternoon. The next morning, I couldn't find the Scallion - it had been dusk when I finished filling the hole. I redug the 2ft x 3ft by nearly 2ft deep trench - using a trowel in the best of my remembrance of my archaeology elective's digs. It was alongside the splice. I had to completely dissassemble it to get the sand/grit out - but it was my 'friend' - and deserved it. These days, it resides in a case - with the others in the photo - except the Native - it's still an occasional EDC - when a B-M isn't available. I likely wouldn't dig it up!

WallyWorld did carry a Scallion - as did Academy Sports - surely BPS/Cabelas stores do - I would check one out personally, if I could.
