Well, i guess i dont really need one, just want one. I have always carried folders as EDC and am interested in trying out a fixed blade. I have been carrying my AFCK for a long time now, and i love it, but just want to try something a little different. I plan to spend about a 100 bucks and want something around 4" give or take. The AFCK is close to 4" and it seems to be a great size blade for me. I want it to be a very versatile knife, since i will EDC it, it will need to do menial tasks efficiently like cutting paper, cardboard, lunch meat, fruit, etc. Self defense is not really a consideration since i always carry a firearm off-duty. I would prefer a rugged look and construction for the handle, because it will definately see some abuse and i wouldnt want to be upset if i dinged or scratched the handle. That's about all i can think of, what are your suggestions? Thanks.

Your price range is limiting...however, for about 106.00 you could get a Fallkniven S1 from Bayou LaFourche...5" VG-10 blade...full tang...and a lot of quality for the price.

It is a very robust 4.25" blade. Full tang, 3/16" thick with micarta handles, with an always useful drop point. You can get it in 1095 or D2 steel, plain edge or partial serration, all for under $100 (under $75 at Knifecenter). Tough to beat for value and toughness.

I have both the TAK and the RAT7 (6.5" blade version), and I really like both of them. May be a tad heavy for EDC (10 oz), but you aren't going to break it, that's for sure! :)

Good luck making a choice!

Yeah i know the $100 price is limiting, but that's not set in stone, its just a target that i probably wont hit. If i could get a much better knife for a little more i would, but i just wanted to give an estimate so that people realize i cant spend 300-400 on the thing.

You may want to check your local and state carry laws first.
It would be illigal to carry such a knife where I live.

Some really nice ones:
Most all Bark Rivers are under $100, with premium A2 tool steel.
Benchmade Nimravus Cub (ATS-34, 154CM, OR M2) under $100.

Or save up $90 more and get a BOB DOZIER, it will be the best money you ever spend on a knife, like this one:

The Gerber Yari would be perfect for what you are looking for if Gerber hadn't DC'd it. The Benchmade Nimravus Cub would be an excellent choice, eventho its' blade is only 3.65" long. You might also want to take a look at the Benchmade 180 Outbounder.

I'd sugggest taking a long hard look at the Spyderco Perrin and Moran Featherweights. they are both extremely versatile knives- The Perrin is a little longer, and perhaps a little sturdier, while the Featherwieghts aren't as rugged, Neither one is a sharpened wrecking bar, but they both cut like a laser.

I believe the BRKT is also one of the very best deals going on knives- probably a better deal than the Featherweight IF you get a decent sheath made for it. The sheath it comes with is alright for outdoors and camping, but a bit cumbersome for EDC.

How about a Swamp Rat Bog Dog with a custom kydex sheath? You could get that for around $100. 4 1/2" of D2 and a nice Resiprene-C handle.

Great recommendations, i am researching everything that's been posted here, keep em coming =)

Another one to consider, The Kershaw Echo.
Its a Ken Onion Design, and a great knife, and comes with a great leather sheath..

Very nice for under $40 Browning 4" Aus-8 steel, nylon sheath:

I have alot of 3"-4" fixed blades, both custom and production.
Several of them quiet expensive.
One of my all time favorites is the Benchmade (fullsize) Nimravus-154cm.
It is truely an excellent knife.
Amazingly sharp, and able to hold an edge through very rough use.
The cub version would probably be an excellent choice for you.
It is a natrual fighter also.
You will not be disapointed!

I don't have one of these but have been looking for a long time and would like to try one. It may be what you need. It's available from TOPS knives.

O/A Length: 4 7/8" Cutting Edge: 1 7/8” Thickness Blade: 1/8” Blade Color: Black Traction Coating Blade Steel: 1095 High Carbon Alloy Rc58 Handle Material: Black Linen Micarta Sheath: Special 360° Position Kydex Sheath (Rotating Steel Clip) Mfg. Handcrafted in the USA

Ferret #FBHP-01$59.00

My post is not very clear. The knife model is the Ferret available from TOPS. Hope that clears things up. I don't think you can go wront for $59.00 and made in the USA.

How is the sheath that comes with the full size Nimravus for EDC? I like the look of it, and love my AFCK so much that i definately trust Benchmade products. It's also right in my price range. Also, that Dozier looked pretty awesome, but if i were to splurge and nearly double my price range like that, what could i expect to get from the Dozier that i wouldnt get from the Nimravus or other suggestions that have been made here? That Bodyguard model is only a 3.5 inch blade so i would be getting less blade, is the D2 steel that much better than the 154cm on the Nimravus, or is it just overall quality that makes the difference? Lastly, the handle on the Dozier looked pretty stout, would it be too large for comfortable EDC?
